After 14 months of using various other mods, I finally broke down and order a ProVari. ProVape shipped it the same day I ordered it (last Thursday), and I began stalking the mailman. My new ProVari Mini, Zombie Edition arrived today and so far, I love it. Great feel, fires wonderfully, rocks with my nautilus sitting on top of it. I am currently waiting on a Russian 91% to come in that will probably live on the ProVari. I do have a couple of questions about it. I downloaded the manual from provape, but it seems unreadable after page 5. I can open it up online instead of downloading it and read it, but several pages are missing. Anyone else have that issue? I don't really need the manual because the operation is very straightforward. My main questions are:

1: When I check battery voltage or atty resistance the mod fires for a second or two. Is this normal?

2: Does anyone make a longer extension cap to use the 18650's on the mini. I picked up the extension to use 18490/18500's but would love to be able to use all 3 battery sizes. If no one makes an extension, then I will probably wait a month or two and order a blem version of the regular ProVari with its ext cap since i keep an abundance of 18650's around. I just like the teardrop pattern on the mini much better than the circle and line pattern of the regular one.

Answer1...yes it is normal that it fires, how would it get the reading otherwise.

I figured it was normal, just want to be sure.

answer2 yup they sure do, the easiest is here...Tatroe Mods

Thanks! That is exactly what I am looking for. Now to color match the green paint and splatter... lol I will probably order one or two of those rings tonight.

MY Itaste vv3 and wife's Vamo Does not "FIRE" to get an ohm reading!! As a matter of fact I think most dont actually "fire", hence the question being asked so often here in the Provari section. I have a Provari on the way so been lurking around here myself for useful info. Regardless i seen an answer provided here by Baditude where the same question was asked.

The Provari is checking the ohms "under load"; which means it is using a more accurate way to measure a coil's resistance under power.

It does the same thing when you check your battery's voltage.

I normally refer to Baditudes blog but the laptop that has all those links stored on it is awaiting repair, I'm working from a pristine desktop that I have to start gathering all the links anew.
I have a very hard time explaining things specially in writing this seemed like pretty straight forward so I gave it a shot.English is not my first language so I beg forgiveness if my explanation was lacking.

I never owned a Vamo and the Itaste VV3 only a short time and the only thing I knew how to do on it was to turn it on and adjust the voltage.I went from the starter Ego and that Itaste straight to ProVari, never regretted it for one single moment.

You are correct. Most other mods don't actually fire the coil to test resistance...or at least not in a measurable way. The ProVari does, but does so at a very low voltage for a very short period of time. This is the most accurate way to get a measurement. I like to call the minute wisp of steam that sometimes emerges from the drip tip, "the angel's share." (I totally stole that term from the brewing industry).

Yeah, that is what made me ask the question. Neither my VAMO nor my eVic fire when checking the resistance or the battery level. That said it makes sense to check both under a load. It shows the level of thought put into the design of the provari. Speaking from experience I have seen coils in large transformers test fine until a load is placed on them, so I definitely understand the design.

Here's a pick of my Mini in 18650 mode via the extension cap and a brass Tatroe ring. As a caveat, if those 18650s you said you had laying around are the gray Panasonic CGR18650CH, they don't fire in this setup. Perhaps the button top doesn't protrude far enough, or too short over all, all I know is mine don't work in there. Provape recommends the AWs anyway, probably best to stick with those.

***Warning!*** You may have already considered this, but sometimes people don't. Due to the firing under load function don't ever check the resistance of a dry carto.

Provari tests ohm under load to give you an accurate idea of what your firing as if you were vaping. Most of the other mods send just enough power to give you a rough idea, without actually firing the coil. While that gets you in the neighborhood of what the coil is doing, Provari takes it to next level of accuracy and lets you know what is happening under real world conditions. Just another example of why Provari electronics have stood the test of time. It's not unusual to see the the Provari change a 10th or two during the ohms test as it ramps up the power. The last reading given you can take to the bank and draw interest on.

Looks very nice, thanks for the pic. Just waiting on the Tatroe ring to be in stock now. And yes, I have plenty of the Pannasonics, but I also have small handfull of 18650 aw's and those are what I am planning on using in the provari. The cgr18650chs will probably stay in rotation for my mechanicals and my vamo/evic. I was already guessing that the pannys wouldn't work without a button top adapter, and I don't like using a battery adapter.
