I am a total newbie, never tried e-cigs before. Been reading this forum for weeks, so much info, my head is spinning lol, finally decided to go with joye 510. Got my kit today, and now am frustrated!!!! There is NO manual inside. Well, there is a little one, but it only talks about battery, and charging, and keeping things away from kids, stuff like that. But not a single word about how to fill it with e-liquid, where to put it, how much to put, how often to change things, nothing! This is unbelievable.

So, I got 2 batteries, 2 atomizers, inside atomizers there are 2 plastic cartridges with NO filling (how come?), and 5 spare cartridges with filling. The questions are:

- how much juice am I supposed to put in cartridges? do I just drip it right on the filling or take the filling out first and drip it in that plastic thing?
- if I don't put juice in cartridges and put it directly into atomizer, is it bad for it? will it reduce it's life? how much juice do I put in atomizer?
- if I do put juice directly into atomizer, am I still supposed to use cartridge WITH filling?
- it says cartridge is for one use. But what is exactly one use? This part I don't understand at all. How often to change cartridges?
- if vapor reduces, does it mean I have to charge the battery, or put more juice?

too bad these kits don't come with clear manual for first time users.:(

edit: forgot to mention that my kit is not pre-filled with juice for first use. everything is empty.

if you drip in the atomizer it would be better to use the dummy empty cart that may have come attached to the atty (otherwise the cart stuffing might wick juice away from the atomizer). Preferable is a drip tip so you can drip right through the mouth end. 2 drops to start then 1-2 when the vapor gets light.

carts - I hate the white stuffing. it's hard to get it in right if you take it out. Order precut blue foam cart stuffing for 510 from strictlyejuice.com - costs under $1 I think. The blue foam is easy to take out for a full fill - I don't tempt fate by filling 3/4. I fill the cup 1/3 way, insert the stuffing (tapered end first), push the stuff into the juice to get it wet (use an unbent smooth small paper clip), reposition it at the top of the juice cup, and top off with 2-3 drops. Then just top off the cart when it needs it by adding some drops to the top. When that isn't helping much then do another full fill. With new stuffing and rinsing/drying occasionally, a cart can be reused a long time until it becomes loose from the heat etc. BTW pull/push carts off and on, do not twist which could strain the atty bridge.

let me see if I can find you a manual on the web...

This a word doc - it's safe - I run a good virus program that said the file is ok. Note much info in this text manual. A bit about juice at the end

When the vapor gets light the cart probably needs more juice but it can also mean the battery is getting low.

I also recommend cartomizers on 510 - you have to fill them well to start and let the jucie soak in well so you don't singe and ruin them. But then you can vape a lot longer without having to add juice. With a carto, when the vapor gets light you can tip the ecig cartomizer down for 5 seconds and if that doesn't help the vapor you remove it from the battery and add more juice. Cartos are disposable - they do not last forever and you cannot change the stuffing. But if you fill one well to start and keep it damp you may get 4-7 days or more out of one.
Some nicely made simple stuffing-type cartos with soft caps are Boge standard resistance soft caps 9the LR ones are hotter but only for fat battery 510 like Ego or Riva 510)

The same site has drip tips (scroll down)

Blow out your atty's first into a paper towel. They have primer in them that is nasty tasting but won't harm you. Take an empty cartridge and start dripping into it until it looks good and slushy. If you need to, work the filler around with a pair of tweezers so the juice gets down in it. Place the filled cartridge onto your atty and push down easy until it won't go any further. Now screw atty onto the battery. Press battery button and draw slowly. It's a little different than a normal cig.

thanks, this was helpful. Interesting, my manual was like the doc one, but didn't contain the last part about e-liquid and reloading, that part was missing. hmmm.. go figure..

I will sure order drip tips, but until they arrive, if I put juice right into atomizer, I just use the empty cartridge, without that white foam, right? Is that the reason why 2 of my cartridges didn't contain foam? For such usage?

The empty carts that come on the atomizers are there to protect the bridge in shipping, I think. They happen to make handy impromptu drip-tips, which is nice... or if you order blue foam you can use them like regular carts.

Have fun with it. Don't worry about all the other stuff right now... just get started. There tends to be a lot of "information overload" here, but once you've gotten the basic, stock 510 stuff figured out, you'll have a better idea of what questions to ask and where to go next :)

Welcome aboard! You'll love the 510. It got me off the analogs, and I still have a few 510 batteries in strategic places as backups to my backups ;). Enjoy.

The battery will indicate when it needs to be charged, the led on the end will blink when you push the button, or will not light at all.

Charging: Do not overtighten the battery into the charger; many chargers have been damaged this way. Just lightly snug. I plug my charger into the wall first and turn the battery in just enough for the led to blink indicating charging is started plus 1/8-1/4 turn.
