K I've been wondering this... whats with the removable battery in the genuine Joye passthrough? Is it a backup battery or what? I thought th e battery was in the handpiece?

Its so you can take it out of USB port and use it while walking around and so forth.. I would NOT recommend you get the one with the battery, mine lasted not even two weeks!! Believe others have had problems with that kind too.. Get the PT without it..
Damn well, I already have one (Joye brand) I should have gotten one that detaches... Oh well, next time I will. hopefuly mine lasts a bit though!

yeah is technically a battery I guess but it doesn't charge..It doesn't work unless its plugged into a USB port or has the inline battery like the one you got.. Hope yours last longer too
.. Charge it for a few hours before using it, maybe that is were I went wrong.. They do sell replacement batteries for the inline ones but I never bothered replacing mine, just bought another non inline one..
I have the kind with the inline battery. From what I can tell was that it was easier and cheaper to just stick a chargeable battery inline than build a voltage regulator. The usb charges the battery, the battery sends a steady regular current to the atty. I've been using mine just about every day for the last 3 months with no problem. There is no secondary battery in the stick part of that passthru.
