So I bought my eVic last Thursday that came with firmware 1.3 preinstalled. Worked great etc, but the the darn MVR software installer would not install on any of my PCs, all spitting out the exact same error in Chinese. Compatibility modes, running as admin, all the typical troubleshoots you would do with software and even installed earlier versions of windows in virtual machines with the exact same problem. Being computer literate, I was completely stumped and googling could not find me a single instance of anyone else having this problem. Mind you, even v1.2 down to the original 1.0 all exactly the same. Even grabbed all the software copies off Ovale's site, no different.
So next day, Friday-ish (polyphasic sleep makes it hard to measure the days), I contacted joyetech through their site, and got a response in less than half an hour. We passed emails back and forth a few times because they don't speak the same English we do, but once I was able to communicate the problem, they asked me if they could take my OS specs so they can go to their software engineers folk to find a resolution, and if it was ok if I would wait until Monday (there's these magic two days between each week where everyone in the world but me shut down). "Sounds good to me, thanks".
Fast forward to Sunday, where it was already Monday for them, I get an email with an attachment asking me to try this new version of MVR that looked like a portable version of the software that could just run without any installer, and boom, it opens! Plugged in my eVic into the USB, BOOM it pops up a 1.4 firmware upgrade. Everything works! I think later that day or the next day they publicly released v1.4. I registered so I could report how much these guys rock, except this forum requires you to spam elsewhere 15 times before you even have the privilege of posting on the eVic forum, which I didn't reach until now.
So there it is, I wanted to share my experience. I'm impressed by joyetech with both the speed of their support and their ability resolve my issues, even more-so considering the pseudo-English language barrier. I was on the fence the first few days debating if I had buyer's remorse (wanted my first PV to be something that wont be lacking in features or longevity that starting from the low end causes, in the espresso world we call it upgraditis, and how can one go wrong with hardware with upgradeable firmware!?). After my experience with their support, I feel confident I made the right choice. Now I look forward to a long lasting hobby of putting chemicals into my body with equipment manufactured in the most polluted country in the world like everyone else
(Please pardon my sense of humor)
