A statement and then a question for the group..

I've for years gotten into the bad habit, while smoking traditional cigarettes, that I would not brush my teeth before having a morning coffee (or 4) and smoking the stinkies. It always seemed more logical to get the dirty business done before a nice brush and after the coffee so I'm still in that routine each morning.

One thing I have noticed is that after brushing the juice tastes muted and just not the same as the first few pulls or hour before doing so. I had attributed it to just not sensing it for hours while sleeping however I believe I may have nailed it and feel it's the strong toothpaste the wife and I use.

You know the commercials about this long lasting flavor stuff that literally melts your mouth (unless you like a slow menthol burn ;) ) and when you rinse it's like chewing on ice. I'm wondering if the extra lasting flavor profiles are killing the taste buds from experiencing juices?

Does anyone else notice this or have any similar experiences? Next product is something a bit less as intense and long lasting but honestly it's not until after mid day and after eating some food for lunch do I find my mouth isn't as medicinal and I can actually taste more things (food and juice included)

Thoughts?

Cheers!

I tend to brush after my coffee in the morning. The vape on the way to work is pretty muted. After about an hour at work my full flavor returns. I tend to drink about a liter of water during my ride to work and the first hour there, so maybe that helps the flavor return quickly.

I read that the surfactants in toothpaste are what ruin the flavors of food, drink, etc. right after brushing and have found that a large water intake immediately after brushing tends to get them off my toungue rather quickly.

that after brush taste sensation is something that always bothered me. i prefer to eat my morning meal then brush as i find after brushing everything still taste like toothpaste for a bit. the wife how ever is pro brushing first thing in the morning and doesnt notice any after taste. thus i believe its something with the taste buds and the mind. as it makes no difference which tooth paste brand we use for me its always there.

Ah ha! So someone else who also notices this as much as I do. :)

I guess it may be the brand (would have to run and check) but this stuff just lasts and lasts which is a good thing except when RY4 or even Cinnamon tastes muted and bad as almost like drinking Orange Juice or any citric acid based drink after drinking (good lord the shivers).

I've been making a whole bunch of life changes the last 6 months and due to some higher than normal sugar levels I've stopped the soda and cola drinks all together and now drink tons of Crystal Lite packets in my water bottle all day long (work from home) so I'm getting enough water intake but I'll give what you've done a try and see if it helps.

I'll also have to go back to a normal, shorter lasting freshener paste that doesn't burn my buds for hours on end..

Thanks Xander!

A valid observation Deleon..

I'm sure there's some products out there that are still good for purpose but don't blast the buds so much juice is terrible/muted for so long. Just have to find it which, while quickly browsing the myriad of products out there, may not be an easy thing (lol)..

Thanks!

Glad to help. I have found that water intake has become important to me. I have read your other posts about life changes and I am doing the same thing. More water and less soda. I feel better and have more energy. I was never a believer in the "dump soda" camp but since I took up vaping I have seen the light.

I used to drink 4 liters of Mountain Dew every day. Yes, you read that right. 4 liters. Since I started vaping I am down to 12 oz a day at lunch. I still need my fix but I have dropped the excess soda in favor of water. Seems vaping causes us to pursue other, more healthy alternatives in life. :)

I tend to stick to baking soda types of toothpastes with the least amount of chemicals as possible, and I may have to wait about fifteen minutes for my vape to taste right. After giving up four thousand plus chemicals in cigarettes, I've begun cutting even more out of the other things I consume. Just my experience anyway. :)

If your toothpaste is icing your tastebuds, it might just be not right for you. I sometimes think that personal care products are the last remnants of 19th century quackery - they all promise health, charisma, sex, promotion, relief from all manner of ills. Get something that cleans your teeth and doesn't ruin the rest of your morning. Baking soda and fennel will do that much, but can be a bit fiddley. :)

It's funny, I have the exact opposite experience of toothpaste + juice. Particularly, my absolute favorite vape (A Quiet Morning by Alice in Vapeland) tastes its absolute best right after I brush my teeth. it's so good I think I might ask them to add a touch of mint to my juice next time :D

I've never been able to handle the "mintyness" of toothpaste.

There is a reason for toothpaste, mostly to give breath a minty smell, and also to deliver flouride (which I don't need as an adult) but it is actually not necessary to clean your teeth. There are a lot of chemicals in toothpaste that I prefer to avoid, like Triclosan, dyes, artificial sweetners. It can be abrasive to gums and enamel too. Baking soda is very abrasive to the gums for sure. All the chemicals can actually disturb the ecology of your mouth.

A water pick and water work just fine. Or a brush and/or sonic brush and water. You don't need *detergents*.

If you go to a holistic dentist, they will tell you this.... brushing without toothpaste has been shown to be just as effective.

You can grow mint in the garden, put a leaf or two in water, or a drop of food grade essential oils from a plant......and use that if you need *more* than just plain water.

Nice info and good replies everyone, thank you!

I think I'll just try to find something that doesn't cause me as much distaste after brushing then vaping. As well many have recommended alternatives to processed commercial paste that may end up being better for you and as Racehorse states `You don't need *detergents*` which I have always honestly believed and over the years and costs of dental cleanings and procedures they seem to do just enough to keep you happy but not enough to keep your repeated business :)

Not that they all are like this and unfortunately the few dentists I did enjoy going to over the years have passed which is a shame because several were due to smoking related diseases and illness :(

Again, much thanks for the replies and info.. It's something to think about!

Cheers,
