Unsuccessful vegan is nothing to be ashamed of, that food is just kinda blah. That being said, your palette will change the less you smoke, you're no longer killing taste buds every time you light up, so you might find you like it better later on.

Just be careful when trying to change too many facets of your life at the same time, slow and steady wins the race.

Oh and whole-wheat pasta likes to mingle with other flavors, its rather lack luster on its own. Go with a ziti/penne/rigatoni shape, cook according to package directions for al dente. Pair it with a lower sodium marinara (read the label) and good lowfat (2% or skim) cheese blend (iirc Sargento makes an "Italian" blend in 2%.) Mix cooked pasta, sauce and cheese in a deep casserole, pop in the over at 350 for 25 min (uncovered) and yummy snacks await. Just don't eat it all at once, kinda defeats the purpose, but makes great leftovers, even cold.

If you're looking to avoid the dairy, you can also heat some good quality olive oil with a bit of minced onion, garlic and basil (I like it fresh from the garden) and toss your pasta in it after its done cooking.

Thank you!!! Part of the go-vegan process is re-learning how to cook. I look in my fridge/cabinets and there's nothing appealing that I can make a quick meal of. Your suggestion is a godsend, thank you. I wish I was doing this because I felt strongly about eating animals, not that I don't like animals tho when I saw a documentary on how egg-producing chickens are forced to live I buy only cage-free, but it's a health/weight consideration. Yes, slow and steady, I know from experience (but do I learn? dunno). Thanks.

Thanks for posting this, FoolofGrace. The replies you've gotten has helped me a lot. I've been striving for perfection, which I haven't gotten. I haven't bought any analogs since last Tuesday. Those lasted me until today. It is bothering me today, knowing that I don't have any of my "old friends" to fall back on.

Thanks to everone who replied to this thread. I believe your advise will bring me to analog free soon. I'll just try to be good, just not perfect.

Hang in there, grace. I've quit smoking a dozen times. While vaping helped me quit, it didn't kill my cravings right away. I smoked AND vaped for at least a month before I smoked my last cigarette. Just keep TRYING. Every time you grab a PV or ecig instead of an analog cig, you are doing yourself a favor. I'm sure you know these things, but reinforcement helps. There is a huge community here that is rooting for you to finally quit, but nearly everyone has been where you are. Take it slow, cut yourself a little slack, and keep trying.

I've only been vaping for a little over a month. I started with no intention to quit smoking. It was just going to be a way to cut down on fights over smoking/non smoking hotel rooms when on vacation with my hubby. Then it turned into a way to cut the cost of smoking. Then it turned into an interesting hobby that my whole household is thrilled about (no more cig smelling clothes and I just might live a little longer).
Within a week of vaping I was down to about 2 cigs a day from 1 to 1 1/2 pad. After some stress filled days and way too much drinking, I am back up to about 5 to 7 cigs a day. I don't beat myself up for it. Neither does my family. I don't count the analogs I smoke as failures, I count each one I don't smoke a success.

Here's a corny joke I always refer to: "How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb? Only one, but the light bulb has to WANT to change!"

If you want to quit, with this method you will quit. It's working for some one that didn't want to quit so it has to work for you! lol

Good luck!!

I don't get the advice to try lower nicotine, but best of luck in your quest to get off cigs.

Hi swedishfish -- This is just FYI: I got some advice from Dormouse in a separate post where I was talking about how these forums taught me that my nauseous-ness was from over-nicotining; I was at 30 mg and I was vaping A LOT in the first 5 days or so. Dormouse suggested pinch-hitting with a lower nic and using the higher levels for a quick fix as needed, so I ordered some 18 mg. I couldn't even vape for a day or two due to the nausea, but it's better now. Just 'splainin', you've been a good forum pal, tks.

It's not necessarily the case that the nausea is due to too much nicotine.

I started at lower nicotine and found I vaped too much and it was actually the flavoring that was making me feel sick not nicotine. Especially if you're using those disgusting prefilled cartos. They'd make anyone sick. When I increased the nicotine I did great.

You need enough nicotine in a high quality juice to get you over your cigarette addiction. Regardless of how much you vape, it's doubtful that your getting more nicotine than when you smoke. No one knows how much we get with any real accuracy but the guess is around 30% of the nicotine.

If your still craving cigarettes, it could be a few things- higher nicotine, a better pv- maybe something you can use LR cartos or atty or it may not be just the nicotine addiction but other substances in cigs.
