Hello my fellow vapers!

So first things first, I am quite a seasoned vape enthusiast.
I have been vaping for nearly 2 years and building what I consider to be relatively advanced coils for quite some time now, I also consider myself experienced with ohms law.
I use only good quality, genuine batteries (vtc 5's and Samsung 25r's only) and I like to think my battery safety is pretty good ( I visual check my batteries regualrly and check them with a DMM also, if in doubt I retire the batteries just to be safe).

I am looking at taking the next step in my vaping and would like to explore the wonder of mechs!
This is purely from a durability / simplicity / user serviceability / curiosity point of view.
I know what you're thinking (DONT DO IT!!! YOULL BLOW UP AND DIE AND YOUR HEAD WILL FALL OFF AND THE vaping COMMUNITY WILL IMPLODE BECAUSE OF YOUR SELFISH ACTIONS).
In all seriousness, can anyone give me some good tips?
I'm not going to be building super low, .4 / .5 probably, as I don't want to over stretch the amperage of my batteries.

Any good pointers? I want to do things as safe as possible and take my time with it, I'm quite looking forward to learning some new things and experimenting with it all.

Sorry for the essay and thank you in advance for any advice :)

Get a sense for makes a good contact, and what doesn't. Buy a mod first for its contacts, than you can judge it on its aesthetics. Far too many people buy the mod cause its cool looking, only to find the contacts were less than well thought out.

Mechs are all I use. I don't own a regulated mod, and have no plans to. I vape regularly on builds between .4 ohms and .5 ohms. Know your battery safety, use authentic batteries from reliable suppliers, use an ohm meter to check your builds, and you'll be fine.

I've been using a nemesis mech mod for the past year and as with any mod if you do regular maintenance (cleaning.and a drop of oil on moving parts) they work well.with a box mod you want one with a hexfet (mosfet). the switches used in these often are low power units that have difficulty with sub ohm coils. I prefer mech mods but i'm sure there are some here that would say that i'm living on borrowed time  even regulated mods can be dangerous with bad batteries. educating yourself is the best way to insure your safety

Thanks, yeah to be honest if I like my experience with them I think I will head down that route. I like the idea of total user serviceability and a properly maintained mech should last a good while as well.
I always use an ohm checker, before and after pulsing / pinching. I will probably keep a regulated mod just for firing and shaping new coils, just for a bit of added protection.

As long as you know what can happen and you take the time and care to prevent such things then go for it.

Make sure you buy a good mechanical device and look up reviews of that device. Make sure you know how it works and how to take it apart. You should also take apart and clean any device you just buy. Regularly clean your battery contacts, device contacts, and your 510s.

If you are going the route of a single 18650 tube mechanical I would suggest using VTC4s and to start don't build anything much lower than 0.5. If you want to go lower, then go for a dual parallel 18650 box.

Also, as your first mech I would stay away from any hybrid style devices if it's a tube. Go for something with a 510. I happen to love the SXK/Infinite StingrayX. The SXK/Infinite King V2 is also a nice tube. Those are both great quality clones as an example.

I'm leaning much more towards tube style mechs if I'm honest, I'm very cautious with batteries and will happily shell out the extra bucks for genuine :) mainly because I like my teeth in my mouth and my face on the front of my head :)

I have a regulated mod on my bench just for testing and pulsing/pinching coils but then I switch to a mech mod when wicking. I just prefer the flavor I get with a mech

with tube mods pay attention to the spring. a light coat of mineral oil will keep them from rusting. most of the current flows thru the spring so you want a good heavy spring and need to keep it and the contact surfaces for it clean

Wow, I'm surprised it's that cheap, even if it is a clone...
I've bought a Council of Vapor Kindred v1.5 as my first mech, it was about the most I could stretch for the short term and I'm treating it very much as a way of learning the parts etc of these types of mods.
I'm going to wait another few days and get some more study in before I even open the box to start getting a hands on feel for it though, can't wait! (But I'm going to ;)

I was very surprised at the quality of this mod as well for the price. It has very strong magnets in the switch. I've had this one over a year and not a bit of problems with it :)

That's awesome, without delving into the "politics" of clones, do you think that the quality of genuine can be replicated by clones (in a very generalised way)?
