Anyone have this problem when they started vaping? I always lit a cig first thing when I smoked and I just can't seem to kick the habit. I tried just vaping after I woke up and I never really felt satisfied so I'd bum a smoke off my roommate, and for the past week I've kept a pack of my own lying around just for that morning cigarette.

I'm not really sure how I'd kick this part of my morning routine. Possibly a higher mg first thing? I normally vape 20mg or 25mg which is still pretty high. Should I cook up a 30mg - 35mg to vape first thing in the morning?

Any tips or tricks that you guys have found to get around this? I really want to stop with the death sticks =\

Hi

I had two tough spots when I started: That first getting out of bed problem like you. And those last two hours before retiring to bed at night. For the morning problem what worked for me was:

PV right at bed side, right in reach before I even got out of bed. NOT the cigarettes! I specifically kept my pack in a hall closet so any cigarette, especially that morning one, required some effort to get to it.

Highest nic level at the start of the day. For me that was using 30 mg liquids, but only needed for the first couple hours or so. And keep in mind that this will probably be a short term thing. Personally, I don't need to use the 30 mg stuff any longer.

Oddly enough, once I got to my first cup of coffee that evil, right out of bed "wanna cigarette" craving would go away. Conventional quitting programs would tell you to stay away from coffee - it's a trigger. If you are a coffee drinker, try really hard (It's not that hard actually.) to vape until you hit that first cup and see if the craving backs off.

You will figure it out. But it can be as simple as keeping the PV closer and keeping the butts farther away. And a bit higher nic level to start the day for now.

That morning cig was definitely my biggest hurdle when I started vaping. It's really tough to break a morning routine!

I found that smoking a strong menthol juice (not a tobacco menthol) was the only thing that helped. It was like brushing my teeth first thing in the morning. Very refreshing. Any other juice either tasted too weak, too rich, or too sweet, but the menthol helped to wake up my taste buds.

Ultimately, it wasn't until I got rid of the cigarettes all together that I was really able to enjoy any of the ejuice flavours I had. If I had a cig around, I wanted it, and everything else was second best. Once I got away from the cigs for a while I started to really appreciate the variety of juice flavours.

Congrats on your success and keep up the good work!

I had the same problem when I first started vaping until I found a juice that I REALLY liked...a coffee flavor. At that point I looked forward more to getting up and vaping that coffee flavor than I did smoking the real thing. Now my taste buds have changed and I don't get the same charge from that flavor, but it sure worked for me then. Smoke-free now for a year. Good luck.

I knew that if I had one cigarette in the morning, it would be really easy to have another one during the day. Kind of like "what the hell, I had one already, what's 2-3 more?"
Same as Lunabella, I found that at first menthol was the best for getting a kick out of that first morning drag.
Now I'm ok even with a weaker juice in the morning.
Also when I just started vaping, my sense of smell returned, and I could smell a smoker from a mile away.
To motivate myself not to smoke, I would think how my hair and skin are so fresh smelling in the morning and how gross it would smell after having a cigarette.

I don't really see this a problem. On most days I go for a stroll with a coffee and a Player's. Occasionally I'll have a smoke in the evening. The rest of the time I'm at the vapour. Sometimes go for weeks without a smoke. I've been doing this since last February.
Smoking is a different experience; one which I actually enjoy sometimes, especially since I've cut it down by 90-95%. That's good enough for me.
Try not to obsess about it.

What I do is have a cigarette  I'm still down from 20 plus a day. It's not a sin and anything is better then going back to smokes full time. Your an adult so if you feel the need then well do it. Vapeing and smoking is always better for your health then just smoking. I want a smoke after dinner, I used to feel like a little kid and feel bad but then I wised up and said I smoke two a day, lol, better then I ever thought I could do

I think most of of are long time smokers. Me, I smoked for 20 years. It's a habit. I haven't had a smoke in 3 months but I still crave one. I just need to remember why I quit, assure myslef I can handle not having one, then vaaaaaaaaape. Now, I have over a week in with 0 nic and I feel pretty good. I still crave those dirty analogs, but I honestly never thought I could make it this far.

1. Break the habit. 2. Pat yourself on the back at the end of the day. 3. Repeat.

Similar experiences from many. I have not smoked since 6 October. Before that I had to have one with the first cup of coffee, then after lunch, then with the pre dinner drink, vaped the rest of the time.
Got it down to the morning and evening only, then one Thursday decided to vape only, two cigs still in a packet.
I found menthol, 5 drops of concentrate in 10 ml of a tobacco flavour, 18-24mg nic gave the bite or TH that I needed, though I had never smoked menthol before. Still using menthol reducing nic to 15mg. Can't see me giving up vaping, but of course the nic is still harmful, so will keep reducing it.
All this after 50 years of smoking!

For first thing in the morning I bumped to a level higher nic, had a bit of "craving" eliquid just for then. First thing in the morning is when you have low nic level, it's been metabolized. Taking some big puffs at a higher nic level can help get over it.

If you like tobacco, see if you can get some tobacco absolute flavoring, add just a handful of drops to give a tobacco eliquid extra "grab". I get mine from the perfumers apprentice, though likely someone in Canada would also have it -- it's just a very strong flavoring, no nic in it.

The plus thing is that it does pass, once you get through a little bit. Then you'll find you can drop down to your normal level for early morning.

(Also, if you're down to 1 a day, stellar, as already mentioned.)

Good luck!

Yeah, one a day is nothing compared to a pack a day. Good on ya. I too struggled, but took the plunge anyway. When switching, it seemed the longest I could make a pack last was 4 days....no matter what. So after a month of that, I just said screw it, and committed to vaping 100%...success through utter failure.lol.

I broke the morning cig habit by delaying it. at first I made myself wait 5 min for the cig, and I did have to vape those 5 min! after a few days I went to 10 min, then 30, etc, pretty soon I was surprised to find myself having my first cig of the day at 1 in the afternoon. the delay got easier as the time I waited got longer. I still have 2 cigs a day, at night before bed. I loved to smoke, I only wanted to cut back because of the $$. from 40+ a day to 2 a day. I'm happy

Yep, same thing here. I've been vaping for a while and still have a cigarette in the morning and maybe one at night. I figure I'll stop whenever. A pack will last me almost a month so that saving a TON of money and that's why I started vaping anyway. I know I'd be better off not smoking at all and will totally stop someday. It's not really a big thing to me.
