What would all of you say or suggest for a newbie about public vaping. Considering that you can only smoke analogs under a blanket in your closet with an 8x10 picture of a cancer ridden lung in one hand, part of the allure to me is vaping where I can't smoke.

My boss just laughs at me when I vape in my office. I do ask if I can vape in someone's car or home but outside of that, I am not doing anything bad and don't feel I should hide it. I have a Volt mini and although I have had a few funny looks and one "there is no smoking here sir" in a few weeks, most are more curious about what it is............and I gladly explain it.

I read a comment that said that in an airport, a person was vaping very much out in the open and a response was, "you wouldn't pull out a fog machine in the terminal" and even though I understand the comment, there isn't a law against running a fog machine in an airport terminal. I am just curious on what some of the veterans suggest as etiquette

I live in California, where it's getting to the point that you can't even smoke in your closet if you happen to live in a multi-unit apartment complex. Generally, I've never had any issue vaping in a place where smoking analogs would be considered "okay". I've never openly vaped in an airport, movie theater, restaurant, etc... Mostly to avoid confrontation, and potentially turning someone from an anti-smoker into an anti-vaper in the process.

That said, I do get to chain-vape at work all day, and I've snuck off to airport restrooms for a quick stealth vape. I usually carry a couple of ECF business cards in my wallet to hand out to anyone with questions/concerns. Despite some of the negative press and hype generated by a few politicians, most everyone I've talked to has been encouraging and enthusiastic about e-cigs.

You cannot smoke in almost all bars here in PA and honestly, that would be the only place I would really want to. I can wait out a movie or a trip to the store (I could see myself in a bathroom at the airport) I guess I was just curious as to whether people mainly do it out in the open or stealth everywhere but home.

I do see how people don't want to create anti-vapers by being a jerk and I can see how explaining it would be a pain.............I mean, I shouldnt wear my Cowboy's jersey to a Philly bar but that doesnt mean that I can't.

I did try it in a theater once, but quickly realized that the vapor cloud was VERY visible (at least to me) in the light of the projection. I quickly put it away as I didn't want to disturb anyone else. Other than that, I've used it in bars (smoking and non-smoking), restaurants (all of them are non-smoking here) and at my friend's weekly poker game where his wife doesn't allow smoking in the house but loves vapers as they don't leave the table and hold up the game.

1) A good tip for new vapers is to get a blue light instead of a red. I used black 808ds with blue lights (which look cool) and people can tell it's not a cig. I fired it up in hotel bars and bars in CA w/no problems--bartenders and such know the deal. Non-smokers dig vaping cause there is no smell.

2) There's a vaping in public ECF section, I try to be courteous so as not to get this banned. You start doing this at the movies people will get angry... No need to vape in Walmart... have some courtesy and people are super cool to vapers.

3) People have been pulled over by cops for vaping in their car. Why? Cause a freaky rig and smoke make you look like a stoner... Just be discreet and may not want to vape as the cop is passing you by with a box mod and flashing weird lights... Don't panic, but it happens.

In society if you smoke people think you're a baby eating Nazi these days, if you vape they think it's interesting or cool.

I personally feel you should only vape where you are allowed to smoke. I do have some non-smoking friends that are kind enough to let me vape in their homes and cars, but I don't find it unreasonable to vape outdoors with the smokers. I've even been invited back inside of a few places once they saw I wasn't actually smoking, but I like to let others make the first move.

I used to work in an airport. It is never appropriate to vape in an airport. Our airport's response to reports of "smoke" in the bathroom was to lock down the entire terminal and do a full sweep with TSA, State Police, and the dogs. I couldn't leave work to go home, hundreds of passengers couldn't board their planes, and employees on the tarmac couldn't leave the tarmac. For almost FOUR hours. I couldn't even get my PV through security everyday without hassle as an employee, so beware even bringing one. (although some TSA agents are experienced and do recognize e-cigs without any problem, you never know who you'll end up with.)

We do vape at home, where smoking is not allowed.

There's a indoor smoking ban in restaurants and bars in Michigan as in many other states. But I've been able to vape in pretty much every single restaurant/bar I've been to in Michigan since the legislation was enacted in May 2010. I even started a thread on here in Michigan Vapers to expand the list of vape-friendly places for other folks. I've never had another customer so much as ask me about my vaping. I've had a couple strange looks. Though I HAVE had several restaurant/bar employees ask about it out of sheer curiosity - no doubt folks who are current smokers looking for a way to "smoke" inside.

I say vape away in public if you are comfortable with it (I'm not sure that I would at the movies either). And, yes, courtesy is very important! Someone on here once said, "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission." I think most folks would be surprised how little reaction there actually is to vaping in public.

Personally, I consider vaping in a movie screening ridiculously inconsiderate and incredibly disrespectful to everyone involved. If you did that around me, I'd probably try to have you thrown out…while vaping in the hallway and watching the big guys manhandle you just so you couldn't blame an anti-vaping hater.

As for just about everything else mentioned……if it's a private place, I tend to ask unless it's going to cause a problem to do so. No one has told me "no" yet. Restaurants and bars are a given yes, but I at least let the bartender/waitress know that it's not a cigarette. If one tells me not to, I'll stop without arguing……but it'll be the last time I go there unless there was a good reason to go back……too many have said yes.

Stores…I have, but I don't make a habit out of it……usually just when the people I'm with are being mind-numbing, I take a quick puff.

Basically……no movie theaters…ever……ask permission if it's convenient, if only so people don't misunderstand……don't make a huge deal out of it……and if someone (who has the right & legal status to do) asks you to stop, you stop. If it's that big of a deal to you, you don't have to go back there.

I vape absolutely everywhere I go........EVERYWHERE. Movie theatres, airports, restaurants, next to cops..........

in 2.5 years I think I've had 1 person say hey, you can't smoke here. The key is to be discrete (not showing off and blowing huge clouds of vapor in defiance) when it calls for it.

examples, if I am in a restaurant or movie theatre i inhale and hold it just long enough for the vapor to dissipate and do some quick lil exhales so there is no real vapor that can bug anybody. I get my hit I need and no-body else is bothered.

A restaurant or bar is a lil different. Yes, it might not be against law/ordinance/policy to vape there but if you do happen to vape and throw a puff of vapor where it is visible then a smoker might see it and say "sweet, we can smoke in here!!" and light up.
I can see why a manger might ask you to stop even if they don't really care (that's the one time that happened to me) I knew the bar manager and had been in there vaping for almost 2 hours, laughed at a joke and a puff came out into the air, a lady about 100ft across the restaurant happened to noticed and demanded that the manager tell me to stop.
In this situation I do the same, hold it in for a bit and blow it down quickly so it won't really get noticed or head to the john.

I have had the fake cough before, cracks me up. Have fun with it, be respectful of course but I wouldn't be worried about where to do it.

TSA people know what these are unless you have some mod... I had a TSA guy tell me when I was vaping out front of an airport that they love them so THEY can cop a vape at work in the bathrooms :)...

Ever vape in the bathroom on the plane ;0? It's just water vapor, no alarm for that ;0

I look too mean for anyone to fake cough me... I wouldn't take that in America from anyone... FYI, my avatar is my RL pic

Just the other day while having lunch with the president, I started vaping. He asked me what I was doing, and I said "relax mr peresident, it's just water vapor." He took a couple vapes, and said... "hmmm, I'm gonna have to put everything else on the back burner, and start focusing all my efforts on this."

:):):)

I see your profile shows your location as Pennsylvania.... would that be the state or the AVENUE?
