I live in a little town in NC and though I have not seen anyone with one in public, through conversations, I am aware that a few other people use them. I am surprised that there are a decent amount who said they have tried them or aware of them.

I think one reason I have not seen it more here is that the no smoking law just passed and noone really thought that NC would ever go non-smoking. It is the tobacco state and admittedly, even I thought an ecig would be a poor substitute until I tried it. I think the research is key to having success with ecigs.

I have gone out to some of the restaurants and bars, making sure to talk with the owner and explaining ecigs, they were all fine with it, but I do get at least one "you can't do that in here" from another patron every time I am in public. And I get alot of questions. I need to just have cards made up with web addresses for ECF, a couple vendors I would recommend, and basic info to hand out. It would save me alot of time with the questions.

I have not seen anyone vaping here in C-Ville but it is a small town as well. I haven't really tried vaping in public yet. The closest I have come to vaping in public was at my husband's 40th birthday and there was only one other smoker there (closet) who was bumming all of my cloves. That is what I used to smoke. The rest were smoking cigars. That night, I smoked two analogs, the only two I have smoked since starting this and thought they tasted like crap. I vape in my car once in a while but I am nervous about that also, if a police officer notices...........

One of these days, I will take the plunge and maybe try smoking in a bar. Will have to have some V4L cards with me to explain I am sure.:)

I still step outside to vape. My city just recently passed an ordinance that you can't smoke inside any public building (restaurants, bars, etc.). The anti-smoking sentiment is still fairly strong and I just don't want to deal with someone from the anti-smoking crowd spotting me and getting on my case for vaping in public.

Then again, maybe I should, so that way if they try to go on a tangent about how vaping is still bad I can have a chance to educate them.

I live near Denver, and haven't seen anyone in public vaping

I too believe that the statistic of 1 in 40 seems a bit high. Considering how "health conscience" Colorado is, I would think that I'd see more.

I'm starting to introduce it to the few smokers I know, but I actually don't know many, I was definitely the odd one out with the analogs.
