Picked up a Drawtube mod in the classifieds . I have a Smoktec Telescope and like it but was wondering about the side button type mods . Picked it up for $45 shipped with two 18650 batts . Upon recieving it Islapped a rba with 1.3 ohm coil and 400 mesh wick on it and started vaping . Hit's great and love the side button . I like the feel , and the stainless steel is nice . The contacts seem to be all made out of stainless . The top contact looks like a stainless steel screw , anybody know if this is just a plated screw ? The bottom contact looks to be machined out of stainless also , with a steel spring . Has anybody put in a brass spring ? It would be nicer if the body was made out of thicker steel . The top and bottom caps are nicelymade , thick steel . I've never handled the custom mate GG mods so I can't compare the thickness of the steel . Anybody out there have both ? what are the body thickness differences ? All in all I like it much more than my Smotec Telescope .

Mine arrived today from Discount Vapers. I like it a lot, especially in 18500 mode. I drip and it's pretty hard to get juice down into the connector even without a drip shield, which is great. No drip well but the vents in the top will catch juice if some leaks out. I tried sanding all of the contacts including the screw and they are all stainless which is disappointing, I also wish the throw was a little shorter on the button but those are my only complaints. Nice mod for the price. I was wondering about replacing the spring but not sure where to get one that shape.

I love how tiny it is with an 18350, huge difference in size than my Vamo with the same batt.

I sanded my positive contacts plating off and it appears to be brass. I haven't gotten a chance to check the switch though since I don't have any tool small enough to unscrew the switch off. The spring and negative post indeed are steel. I've read somewhere that some guy replaced his switch and negative post to all brass with his salvaged parts he had laying around. Still a great mod for its price and I'm loving it so far.

I finally sanded my switch contact (was able to unscrew it by hand) and it is brass, but I still haven't had any luck with the screw in the top despite a lot of sanding as well as diamond paste.

Never tried sanding mine yet but prolly anytime soon so far so good the draw tube hit harder without sanding it and yes it is a tiny device @18350 mode... prolly next week ill go handing some brass screws and springs... as long as the springs fit on the negative contact u dont need an exact cone shape... its gonna be my next project lol anyways congrats getting a drawtube!

I'm also getting a huge voltage drop now. Measuring with my voltage reader V2 with just the tube and battery it reads fine with no resistance but when I read it with my AGAT+ I'm getting a .8 drop and thats a HUGE DROP! I'm not getting any shorts either.

Dam how did you take the switch off by hand? I have no luck on mine. I tried to a point where I got blisters on my fingers and still nothing :( Does it unscrew it up or down? Just wanted to see if this unscrews the right way unless I am tightening this ........ I've been trying to unscrew it down or to the left direction.

It unscrews counter clockwise, or to the left. But now that I finally got it out I have problems with it staying in, the threads are crappy. Can you sand the pin from the inside instead of removing the button? If you can I'd go for it and not risk it being too loose as mine is now.

i've been deciding between the both too (smoktech ss telescope v2 and the drawtube). OP u said u definitely prefer the drawtube?

i'm new to mech mods but my genesis doesnt hit hard enough with my eVic hence im venturing into mech mods. and to start i don't want something too pricey.

both are almost exactly the same price in my area and i'm having a hard time deciding. what say u guys?

I was hoping to hear more about adventures in drawtube modding, but threads from its owners are few and far between. That could either be good, or really bad. Although, I have not read anyone say anything bad about the device.

checkout lordie's review on youtube. it's pretty good and sums up all the positives and negatives.

anyway this is out of topic but what grit sandpaper do u guys usually use to sand out the stainless steel? sorry im new to modding this kinda stuff.

Your question leads into on that's been brewing in my head since I have been reading about the mech mods and users sanding down the contacts...

If the contacts are plated with chrome or steel, would they not be plated the entire way around? I have only read of people sanding down the face that comes into contact with the battery. Would it not be more efficacious from an impedance stand point to remove the plating from the opposite side as well? Or is that not necessary?

My Drawtube should have arrived today, but for some reason or other USPS has decided to keep me guessing as to when it will actually be here 0_o

im sorry, i wasn't very specific. i meant the contacts inside, not the body of the drawtube

would 80 grit followed by 800 to finish it off work?

since we talking about internal contacts here i don't see the need for a very well done job?

Sorry I wasn't specific, I was talking about the contact surfaces. You want them nice smooth also, not scratched pitted scored etc for the best conductivity. Although I did not see a huge difference on the drawtube when sanding the contacts (seat of pants judgement here) other than having to clean them more often.

hmm i see. some users have reported a reduction in voltage drop from about .7 to .2-3. so i was curious if i should go about doing that.

but i know little to nothing about sanding the contacts thats why.

thanks for the advice anyway.

mr.bungle, i think they are. you probably need to sand both sides. or you could sand one side and experience less reduction in the v drop.
