Hey everybody. I'm brand new to this, and I just got my 510 kit/PCC/juice/empty cartridges from Eastmall in the mail.

I think I set everything up correctly (battery, atomizer, cartridge), and started puffing away with one of the pre-filled carts I got. It tastes terrible...almost like something burning.

I figured I'd go ahead and fill my own cart with some of the menthol juice I got. I put like 11 drops in before I even noticed the material being saturated (I thought I read like 2/3 drops without using a straw/syringe..?). I put this cart on, and I get the same taste. I really don't even taste any menthol. The juice certainly smells fine.

I know I've read things on this in the past, but I really just can't find anything that answers my questions at this point.

Questions:

1) Is this terrible taste just the atomizer breaking in? How long will it last? If it's not that, what am I doing wrong?

2) When filling my own cart, how many drops can I expect to drop in before it's full? It seemed strange to me that I put so many in when I know I've read 2/3.

Please help! I'm excited to start vaping, but I think I should hold off until I get some answers to make sure I'm not ruining anything.

Thanks!

It sounds like you've got an atomizer with some primer on it.
Search this forum for the word "primer" and you'll get a lot of answers.

As far as 2 or 3 drops on refilling a cartridge, it sounds like you are talking about topping off a cartridge rather than refilling. You should be able to put at least 10 drops and as many as 15 drops into a blank cartridge, especially if you are using the right methods/tools to do so.

I just started vaping about 2 weeks ago. I chose the 510 as my first e cig as well. The first day of use, I had this nasty aftertaste, burning taste from the 510. I honestly wondered if I made the wrong decision in getting the 510.

After about a day of vaping though, the bad taste disappeared and I started to like it. Upon reading up on this site I realized that the primer that is on the atomizer was giving me that bad taste. I love the 510 now.

I've ordered about 5 kits for my friends and I've also tried out their 510's. Same thing, the first day or so their was a nasty primer taste to it.

For an empty cart, I was able to put in about 13 drops. After using it for a while though, I can only put in anywhere from 3 to 6 drops before it's full. I've never really vaped a whole cart before because it starts to lose flavor about half way through.

Oh, thought I'd mention that one of my friends decided to wash out her atomizer and let it dry before use. That seemed to have made the primer taste go away faster. Another friend of mine puffed on a prefilled cart for about a day before he really started to use it in order to get the primer taste out.
Both good approaches to the primer issue.

I soak all my atomizers in cola for a few hours before I use them.

That's probably overkill and I probably just need to wash them out with water.
There are MANY other methods as well, each with their own following.

I only had the primer issue with my first NPro (RN4081) atomizer.
Haven't had that problem since using the soaking method before first use.

Just soak them in cola with a good phosphoric acid content for a few hours.
Then rinse them out with water, preferably distilled or filtered.
Then let them dry for many hours, or use one of the many drying techniques available.

Then a drop or three on the atomizer to get it primed, if you want.
And you should, hopefully, be good to go with no more primer taste.

it tastes too horrible to be good to inhale, i was told to take a tissue and put it in the atomizer end and blow through the other end and keep switching the tissue until it comes out dry. it works great then put a drop or so of juice directly on the atomizer before using it and you'll love it
I figured the cola bath was probably overkill for just a simple primer taste.
But I was worried that blowing it out would still leave enough behind to taste.

My next new atomizer I think I'll try just blowing it out.

Just an update - everything seems to be working fine now, and not tasting terrible. Thanks for the advise!

I actually took pretty much all of the suggestions here and combined them, just to be safe for the first day. I blew the atomizers out last night (I was wondering why the bag they were in had moisture in it...), soaked them in water overnight, and then blew them out this morning.

My cherry actually tastes like cherry, and my menthol kinda tastes like menthol!

Thanks again everybody! I've avoided 5 cigarettes so far :p
