so i just got my first electronic cig. a dse901. the black styled one, and, it is really really harsh. seems even more harsh than a cigarette does. maybe theres something that i missed when reading the instructions. i charged the battery and put in a med dosage nicotine mouthpeice part, then tried to enjoy the smoke/vapor. but it feels like its killing my lungs. maybe my body is just not used to it, but iuno. feels like im doing something wrong. can anyone help me? maybe ecigs just arnt for me? im not really taking huge hits from it, even when i do take a small one it still hurts me. help!

Your mom said not to say...
Probably not doing anything wrong it could be that the atomizer has a crappy tasting coating much like every 510 does. What you can try is to drip a few drops of liquid directly on the atomizer and take a few puff without inhaling to burn that off, see if that mellows it out, try it a couple of times to make sure you get any coating off. Not sure if the 901 has it or not but it stands to reason that it may.

The other thing it could be is that you have a reaction to PG. Is it PG based ejuice you are using? If it's straight carts that came with it I imagine so. Some people can't tolerate vaping the PG, it won't cause serious damage I believe unless you persist in it. You can try using VG based ejuice if that is the case.

These actually seem to hit better than a regular tobacco cigarette after a couple of weeks of using nothing but a E-Cig, I would not expect a regular smoker to be overcome with the throat hit but it is possible. If you take a big drag you can end up coughing up a lung just as if you were smoking a coffin nail. Hope this helps in some way.

You may want to try another cartridge.

My e-cig actually bothers me when it get low on fluid. The vapor becomes hotter and seems rough and dry. When its full the vapor is more moist and tastes very nice.

If you have extra fluid you may try topping off the cartridge. You can also puff on it like a cigar (don't inhale) to try to get rid of the bad taste it came with.

Its also possible that you just don't like the flavor of the pre filled cartridges? Perhaps a juice with less "throat hit" would be better? You can check out some video juice reviews on this site.

I hope it works out for you. It is possible that e-cigs just aren't for you. I guess not everyone will like them.

Let us know how it goes,

I also asked this question and found that my nicotine was way too strong. I received some 11 mg liquid yesterday and now it doesn't hurt anymore. Plus I followed all suggestions here and had to break away from treating it like an analog. You could also try the 5mg if 11 is too strong. Just listen to the people who reply to you, and follow their suggestions...most have been there...there are all sorts of things that could be wrong. But, it can be fixed.

Micengrent,

I got the 401 and also had a bit of "harshness" when I first started trying my e-cig- It about killed my chest and I gagged and coughed like I was a kid trying cigs for the first time- I did a short pull, easy, held it, all that- It just really worried me at first because my husband didn't feel any of the things I felt... Well, I became a bit tentative w/ it, only vaping it 2 or 3 times and as rjp pointed out, pull the vapor into your mouth BEFORE letting it slowly into your throat. It is much easier a pull that way-
I also decided the strength in the cart was too heavy for me- so, I had liquid on the way... I only vaped a couple puffs through th eday very easy until my lower strengthh liquid arrived... As soon as I added some 0 mg to the existing cart and refilled a cart w/ 11 mg It is now much better- I still don't pull directly to my throat (I didn't smoke like that either)
But, I love mine and only smoke about 4 analogs day right now from being a pack and then some a day-
Good Luck! Experiment a bit- try lower strength nicotine and a flavor not as harsh could help too.

thanks everyone for replying. when im smoking the ecig, im not directly inhaling in to my throat so i know thats not the problem. its honestly feels more like im inhaling some sort of smoke or something im not supposed to. doesnt really taste like burnt plastic, but if u could imagine pain from inhaling it, thats what its like. there are a lot of good ideas u all are giving me and im going to try them out. first off i think ill try to add some drops, with maybe a lower dosage. although im not sure if thats the prob because i got cartirdges with low, med, and high dosages, even a no dosaged one that is still the same thing. either way ill try the drops first off. so let me get this right, i pour a couple drops on the fibers? then seal up and vape?
