LOL i bought 2 of these batteries from a battery store months ago, not from a vape shop. I also have an AW 18650 3.7v 2000mah (7.4wh) that did come from a vape shop. Maybe I should use that one instead and just use the Tenergy 18650s on my itaste SVD. I was using them in my SVD with no problem but maybe they are bad for mechanical mods?

Let me rephrase... Do not vape on your tenergy batteries. Do not use your tenergy batteries in any mods.

It's not because a battery fits in your devices and seems to work in your device that it is good for your device. You might hurt your battery and that is a fire hazard.

Be safe... Don't buy cheap batteries ever.

* AW IMR
* Sony VTC5
* Efest 30A

Are examples of good and appropriate batteries for vaping.

BTW.. Good name, I can't believe that "Kanthal" wasn't taken already!

He speaks the truth.... and honestly this should be a commandment chiseled into a stone table somewhere.

I've had one time I sat my device down and it was firing without my knowledege. I caught it before any damage was done, but I was grateful I had a VTC5 in the mod. Had it been an ICR (especially an unprotected ICR), I can only imagine the outcome... my friend was sitting in his wheelchair right next to the device as well as I was working on his van.

This is not only for your safety, but for the safety of those around you.

Here's a story:

My HCigar Nemesis clone came in today so I let my brother borrow my Caravela because he wanted to get into mechanical mods. I assumed that he did some research and looked up safety like I asked him to beforehand.

Sure enough, I just got a call from him saying that the battery just exploded in his hands. He said he has no idea what happened and why it would explode like that. Stupid of me to let him borrow it.

Point is, please do some research about what you are dealing with.

I was only vaping for several weeks, and using my first mechanical mod for about 2 weeks. This was 2 years ago. Placed the mod into a pants pocket with another mod, in my work locker. Go to take a vape break and the mod is too hot to touch. WTH!!

surprise-face.jpg

The firing button had become compressed against the other mod and caused the battery to over-discharge, resulting in thermal runaway. The battery's ends exploded apart, vented hot gas and flames, melted the plastic wrap, and burned my pants. I'm lucky to have found the mod when I did or it could have caused a terrible fire at my place of work.

The battery was a "protected" ICR Trustfire battery. Two years ago protected batteries were what were recommended for mods; these are no longer recommended! Don't trust the protection circuit in an ICR battery or the hot spring in the mod to prevent a battery from going into thermal runaway. They didn't work in this situation.

Use ONLY SAFE CHEMISTRY IMR BATTERIES. Never use protected ICR batteries in a mod.

Ah!!!!!
I didn't know that it happened to you... I thought you were born with battery knowledge! :D

Guess you learned the hard way...

Your little incident served this community well.

Wow! That right there is the reason I haven't gotten a mech mod yet. I'm still learning and will not purchase one until I am satisfied that I am knowledgeable enough with battery safety.

None of us were born knowing this stuff. If you have questions, we're happy to help. Just ask!

Right now I'm using a Kayfun Lite Plus and it taste good at first but after a few vapes I'm getting burnt taste.

You are probably doing something wrong with it Kanthal. Here's Rip Trippers on how to do two different setups on these RBAs. He's setting up with higher resistance than you are because he has a regulated device. Use a couple of coils less than he is with the same size wire and you'll have less resistance, or use slightly thinner wire, or use a slightly bigger drill bit.

Pay particular attention to how he sets up the cotton. He leaves the juice channels clear with no cotton on top of them.

If you are gonna use single coil atty, then you need kick, because of lacking power! With dualcoil atomizers you dont need kick just high drain imr batteries! Simple as that ;)

Like Steam Turbine said, no, this is not true at all. Power is set by adjusting coil resistance when building the coil.

What battery was he using?

AW IMR 18650. Not sure how he caused it, but it went into thermal runaway.

Vary interesting elee86. If you have any more details about the battery I would be very interested to know them. Where it was bought from comes to mind first. If you could get any pictures of the battery now that would be great too :)

ECF also has a 'Form used to report devices that explode or expel smoke at failure'. If you have the time and the data on the battery, filling this out will help keep our battery failure statistics up to date :thumb:
