Seems to me you don't have all the knowledge needed to use a mech mod. if you don't know about 0hms law put down that mech NOW and do the appropriate research.

If you do know about 0hms law, battery safety and how a mech mod operates then ignore that previous statement

Otherwise welcome to ecf :)

+1, too much wire mass for a one battery tube. Try a single coil in 26 or a dual coil set in 28 ga round wire. Shoot for about .5Ω. If that's still not enough, go down to .4Ω, but if you get much lower than that you'll be changing batteries every hour or less.

Mech mods don’t get a wattage bump from electronics. Assuming a fresh battery at ~4v this two coils are getting well under 20 w each and with all that metal the ramp time is going to be huge.
You might actually get more vapor by removing one coil entirely. That would be a .9ohm vape but could still actually work better on a single battery mod.

If you're using 2 .45Ω coils in the rda it is actually .225Ω resulting in 18.6ish amp battery draw.
The vtc5 is a 20a CDR cell.

2 .45Ω fused claptons is too much wire mass for a single cell mech to give more than a lackluster vape.

Do you have a way to accurately measure resistance & check for shorts?

I just was using way to big of wire
More like too much wire. With Clapton’s only one of the many wires actually heats. The rest of the wire just sits there and acts as a heat sink and evaporation surface. You just don’t have enough power to heat up all the spare metal.

@AzPlumber has given you your answer. A two core fused parallel clapton has roughly three times the mass as a single wire for the same resistance. Although the calories (heat) created by both will be roughly the same, the temperature will vary greatly. The simple wire will attain a much higher temperature which you need to vaporize liquid.

I find your lack of faith disturbing...

Hmm. You guys have successfully educated and then confused me. Knowing how great you are I will venture out on a limb and ask this:

I'm running a Ni80 Alien x3 28g/34g @.28 on a 20700 Ampking (Mooch approved).

Well under in amps, voltage should be near 48-50w. I'm content with flavor and vapor.

Should I ditch this and be better served with a single coil SS coil at .5?

Keep in mind I'm still navigating mech builds.
