Hi Everyone!

Smoke free for over 7 months! I'm super happy with everything except the price of my ADV. So I've recently began DIY.

Ive been searching these forums for weeks looking for an answer. I can't find one so I'm joining to ask it myself :)

For 7 months I've exclusively vaped Johnson Creeks Red Oak Line. I use the Domestic and the Tennessee Cured and mix them together to get, what I believe to be, the best vape ever! I order at 1.1% nicotine if that matters. When you open either bottle and smell it.. It has an almost menthol type smell?

So? Question: What ingredient/ingredients give off this smell? Nothing in my DIY arsenal even kind of smells this way. Ugh

Whatever it is I think is crucial in my Diy adventure. I've read a baziliion threads here on DIY, reviews, and JC.. Can anyone help?

The obvious answer is menthol, could be a very small amount of menthol in them. Another flavor that some of us use that gives the coolness of menthol without the mint flavor is Koolada from The Flavor Apprentice. However not being familiar with Johnson Creek I really can't say what they use.

It can be extremely difficult and frustrating to clone a vendors juice, hopefully other DIY'ers will be more helpful than I have been.

I started out trying to clone Heathers Heavenly Tobacco. I haven't done it yet but have created something I like just as well, if not a little better. Play around. A little more of this, a little less of that, swap this for that. Have fun! You never know what you will come up with.

Be sure to write every creation down and file it. It would be a shame to come up with the "perfect" vape only to not remember how you made it.

I got the koolada yesterday. I honestly think it might be in the blend. But it puts off no smell that I can sense. Curious if I'm mistaking the smell of menthol for an alcohol smell? I'm really lost. Hoping someone can open a bottle and say ohhh that smell is....

Lol.. I smoked for 20 years! I've always been told I have a dog nose. I thought when I quit I'd be on sensory overload if my smeller got any better. Nothing changed! Nothing tastes different..nothing smells different. Bummer! Lol

But I'm not a menthol smoker and I don't to alcohol.. But in common they both have a vapor-like medicinal smell. Smell and taste just are so subjective that its really hard to describe and even harder to get answers when there are so many possibilities.

I asked about this on Facebook and someone simply answered "oak!" I'm very interested in this reply!! Anyone have a source for oak? I have red oak and I just ordered something called oak wood from ecig express. Ugh.. My desperation is eating my checkbook bite by bite! Lol!!!
