Hi everyone, I'm Jennifer. I'm 29, but I have been smoking since I was 11. I've been vaping for the past 24 hours. After a ton of research, YouTube videos, and lurking on the forums: I bought an eGO 510. I've actually been looking at e-cigs for over two years. It just seemed so complicated. Drip tips, new terminology, different bits and pieces...I was overwhelmed. Initially, I was tempted to buy the kind that looks like an analog because I thought they looked less complicated, but these forums outlined the difference between vanity and a good experience. I decided on the eGO 510, because I am most concerned with getting my fix. Screw vanity...lol :D

Yesterday was a little rough. Horrible aftertaste (new atomizer), sore throat (PG related), and terrible urges for a "real one" (addict). I woke up this morning and noticed I felt like I had truly quit smoking. I normally cough and blow my nose a lot in the mornings, and this morning I woke up completely clear. The sore throat is gone, and the urge to smoke an analog has nearly subsided. The taste has also improved dramatically.

My mother has Emphysema and COPD. I have watched her barely take in air for years, and it's been heartbreaking. This Friday, I'm doing a demonstration for her, and I'm giving her my second e-cig so she can try. If it works for her, she's going to buy a set. I'm also trying to get my grandmother off the smokes as well.

In 24 hours, I've become a vaping evangelist. I've vaped at my desk at work to the amazement of my co-workers. I've vaped in THEIR offices. I even blew vapor in the face of the vice president. She said, "Nope, I can't smell it. Coooool!"

I have tried to quit every way possible, and nothing has worked; finally resigning myself to the knowledge that my fate will be the same as my mother's. But not anymore. There's not one reason to ever smoke again. So, to anyone lurking that has not made the jump....do it! It's one decision I'll never regret. I only wish I hadn't waited two years to try it.

Welcome, Jennifer! I smoked WAY longer than you did, and I have found it to be an easy transition. Finding the right system & juices hasn't been easy, but giving up the analogs has been. I haven't had an analog for about 6 weeks, a couple of days after I found this forum. I was almost in a panic today when I was on the road and my battery died- thought about having to buy a pack of smokes, but it wasn't even tempting. I was happy to get home to a fully charged battery and continue vaping. Lesson learned: don't leave home without backups! Keep coming here with any questions, the support if amazing!

Welcome and congratulations for finally taking the leap. I think we all became evangelists once we realized this was really going to work! I have to make myself shut-up about them! :) I wish you luck with your mom and your grandmother....
These things are nothing short of miracles if you ask me! I smoked for over 40 years and quit almost instantly once I discovered e-cigs. Good luck.

Jan

Edit: Forgot to say, I've been smoke-free for 1 year, 2 months, and 8 days! :)

Hi and welcome :)
Don't worry about 'chain vaping' too much, a lot of us did just that. I likened it to being a crack addict if I recall but... I haven't smoked in months. I was a heavy smoker for over 45 years. Lately I've dropped my nicotine levels a bit and I'm slowly trying to cut back. Good luck with your mom and grandmother, I hope it works out for them as well
Take care
Rich

Welcome! I'm new to the whole vaping thing myself. Initially, it's a little off-putting, because besides the "smoke" and the throat hit, it doesn't seem particularly like a cigarette, which makes the thought of a permanent transition a little bothersome. Then, a few vapes later, you realize that it most certainly isn't like a cigarette... in that it doesn't stink, it doesn't leave a rather unattractive taste in your mouth, it doesn't burn anything you own, nor does it cover anything in ash. It also doesn't sap your energy, destroy your circulation, and murder your wallet every single morning. Most importantly, it doesn't continue to force more tar into your lungs that your body is already desperately attempting to rid itself of. Not very much like a cigarette at all, come to think of it...

Every other time that I've tried to quit smoking, it only ever took one person offering me a cigarette to completely derail the attempt, because, truthfully, I really didn't want to quit. As for these little marvels... I still had no intention of quitting. I was merely trying to find something to stretch out my pennies a little bit further and possibly supplement my smoking. But nope. It just happened. And it happened for a reason: It's better.

Best of luck to you!

:thumb:Welcome to ECF and Congrats on making the change! I was able to get my mother to switch to e-cigs and she loves them. My mom is in her 70's too and had smoked over 50 years. I won a contest on labor day here on ECF from the supplier Dark City Vapor. My prize was a brand new Go-Go Kit. I received it today and headed to my best friends house to PIF(Pay it Forward). I left her house this evening with her carton of cigarettes and all her ashtrays. She is in vape heaven right now and I dont think she will look back either.:vapor:

Hello and welcome. Get yourself a bottle of a higher mg strength juice that you like. I say this because we all have our "choke the daylights out of...." type days. That added little kick will help you with wanting an analog. You picked a great PV and I hope that you can get the rest of your family off cigarettes also.

Hey, that's great. A couple things to consider:

When I first started vaping I experienced some side-effects, like sore throat, etc. I read some time later (on a post in this forum, I believe) that often times these are caused not by vaping, but by not smoking.

Also, like people say, stick with vaping and regular cigarettes will start to be unappealing. My advice though: after you reach that point, don't get tempted to remind yourself of what you're missing and bum a cig off a friend. I made that mistake a few times in a short period of time and started to want tobacco again.
