Also fairly new... I managed about 3 months analog free... now, 5 months later, I slip up quite often, but rarely buy (and when I do buy a pack, I try to give half away to keep the karmic debt checked.)

I try to keep myself focused on the goal - a cigarette free life, without beating myself up over the slips... one day at a time, etc. Also, a cig or two a week is no big deal, breaking down and smoking over a pack a day again for a week is.

What really helps me is paying attention to the upsides, as a vaper, I can taste things so much better, so I'll go get a sushi roll instead of a pack of smokes, and relish in the subtlety of flavors that I was robbing myself of for years.

I have recovered circulation in my feet that I thought was gone forever... so I get out and take a walk, and enjoy the fact that my feet aren't cold and sore.

I don't stink, and I can smell myself, so I take a shower, and use a nice shampoo, and cologne.

These things all make me happy, and make it easier to forget about analogs when a craving comes along.

I did give mine up immediately -- but don't fret. There are a LOT of folks that didn't quit immediately. Just keep vaping.. soon enough your ciggs will taste disgusting and you'll see the light. Even 1 or 2 less cigarettes a day is a step in the right direction!

Welcome, and good luck you guys :)

I went a few days during Thanksgiving week without an analog, and noticed how nasty they tasted after that. If I had just not gone back then, I'd have done better. I need another busy week like that, lol.

Welcome,
I had a little bit of trouble with giving up analogs when I first started vaping but when I found an e cig that was consistent and a nic strength that was right for my needs I was able to give them up.
It took a few tries,I started with a 901 clone that I spent more for than I should have and was hard to find parts for then went to a 510 ( the one that got me off of analogs)and 24 mg juice.
Then I went through a couple of pen styles M201 and 302. and settled on an KR 808 Vapor King. I still use the 510 on occasion with the 510 cartos.
I've been off of analogs since Nov. of 2009.
Hang in there and don't get discouraged there are quite a few that had a little trouble giving them up completely at first.

Hi, Charlie,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I am using a V4L KR808 batteries, carts, and juice, and I'm sure I need to up my nic level. I went fairly low when I developed heart palpitations with my first batch of 18-24. I want to "chain vape", so after doing some math calculations on my nicotine intake from my ultralight analogs, I went with 11 mg juice. I suspect I need to up that to at least 18, but I've got a little investment in 11 mg juice.

Hello & welcome Joyce.

Don't put yourself under any pressure, just count the real cigs that you don't smoke, not the ones you do. That might sound a bit crazy, but it does give you such a sense of achievement. Plus every real cig you don't smoke is helping you both physically & mentally :)

IMHO, it's one of the best things about e-cigs, we can use them as an alternative to e-cigs without being under any pressure.

I agree with Chrissie. Some people are going to take to it quicker than others, so don't fret over it. I started smoking 100's before I quit so I could carry my PV along with my cigs to try and incorporate them into my routine. I will admit letting that morning smoke go was a bit tough, but you'll get there, and stay there is you keep at it. And you've come to the right place. If you are close to Charleston and ever run into an ecig bind, shoot me a PM, I might be able to help out. Good luck.

just joined so new as well. I couldn't wait to give up regular cigarettes. I always hated the taste and smell. Makes ya wonder why and how I even started right? I like the calming effect of cigarettes and it helps out my OCD. I also have asthma and had to use my inhaler to get through every cigarette. I'm really enjoying the e-cig thing.

Congrats and welcome to the new vapers! Some analogs early on is nothing to beat yourself up over,
you may just need to find your nic level and your level of vaping frequency. It can be different for everyone.
For me it was high levels of nic, vaping constantly, (cut back since) but your level will be whatever is
comfortable for you (and chases away the nic fits and craving).

It took me a little over 2 months to complete the transition from smoking to vaping. I thought, when I first started vaping, that I was ready to give up the analogs but I still had awful cravings. So I took some time to get used to charging batteries and all that e-cig jazz and still smoked 3-6 analogs a day. Eventually, I was ready to jump.

Joyce, instead of thinking either/or with your mg levels, maybe it would help if you keep a carto of higher nic juice handy to fight cravings with. You could still vape 11mg most of the time and then go up to 18 or 24 when you need it. That's what helped me with my triggers... first thing in the morning, cup of coffee, that sort of thing.

Just keep vaping. When you find the juice you like and you get your vapor groove going, you'll let go of the analogs. You'll know when you're ready. :)

I starting vaping about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I began with 18mg cartos but they weren't strong enough, now I have been using 36mg which are a bit too strong but I've been having only 1 analog at most a day usually before I fall asleep. It has more to do with me having a few extra packs of analogs laying around than actually wanting one, I can't bring myself to throw them away so figured I will slowly finish them off.

I have a bunch of 24mg cartos and liquid coming hopefully tomorrow so I think with that it will allow me to vape more often without getting all dizzy and stuff. I am also enjoying my smell and taste coming back, though I've been coughing up a lot of phlegm still.

This is a great idea. I have some 18s around, not my favorite flavors, but if it works out, I could order some higher nic juice to have for hard times. Mornings are tough.

I either smoke my own ultralight menthol analogs, or bum from hubby, who smokes a disgusting full flavor non-menthol. I'm torn between "if I'm going to smoke, might as well enjoy it", and "let's practice a little aversion therapy".
