Just saying Hi

Whew,... it took awhile but they finally fixed the registration glitch that was preventing new sign-ups... and now that they have, and now that I have, I thought I'd say "Hello".

I've smoked since I was 9yrs old... over 30 years now.
I actually "quit" about 8 years ago when I got married to a non-smoker, but still find myself backsliding whenever I'm around smokers... which seems to be more and more.
Inevitably I'll get "The Lecture" which helps me be good for a few weeks, but then... well, you know...

Anyway, we were in the mall the other day and as we passed by a kiosk she said maybe I should buy one of those fake cigs for when I get the urge.
I blew it off thinking, "no thanks, I don't want to just trade one addiction for another", but then as I thought about it later it just started to make more and more sense.
I've been trying "cold turkey", gum, and patches unsuccessfully for 8 years now, I hate the smell, I hate the taste, I hate the raw morning throat and the cough, I hate the hiding and guilt, and I hate the affect it has on my relationship... but God help me, I love the smoking.
Here was finally a solution that was win-win and might make everyone happy and I was stubbornly poo-pooing it without any fair consideration.

Well, I'm the type of guy who hates to make a bad purchase so I got on the internet and stayed up til 2am a few nights reading everything I could find.
Unfortunately everything I found for "review sites" all seemed to be shills, affiliates, and spam sites pushing Greensmoke, Blu, V2 and other trendy namebrands instead of actual independent reviews.
Luckily right before I made a purchase I stumbled across Don and Eric's blog, which lead me to this forum.

After much more reading (and unsuccessfully trying to register so that I could ask some advice ), I finally made the leap with some of Don's recommendations and yesterday ordered a Kr8 starter kit from Cig Easy ($40) and a Riva 510 starter kit from Liberty Flights ($30).
Between the two orders I also selected several different flavors to sample so the total investment right now is about $100.

So far, Liberty Flights has already sent an order confirmation and Priority Mail tracking # so I'm guessing I'll be trying out the 510 around Tuesday night.
Cig Easy is still processing the order so I can't make a guess on delivery yet.

I've gone completely from "Bah Humbug" to a kid on Christmas morning... I can't wait!
Thanks to all here, and especially Don and Eric for their informative and sometimes humorous efforts.
Cheers!

Good choices! (as you see I vape both of those). BTW Boge cartomizers are very nice on the Riva. I use the standard resistance ones and they seem to work great the longest with thinner juices like 80pg/20vg. A Riva could also use the LR 2.5 and 2.0 ones which are hotter and use battery charge faster. I use dripping and occasionally cart+atty for testing juices, and cartos for the keepers.

Dormouse, I'm sure after a few more days of reading, your post is gonna make so much more sense to me. :p

Actually, I'm really gonna have to get my hands on the hardware and play around with it before I fully understand half of what I've read on the forum.
Mixing, testing, modding, cleaning, maint, etc. is still completely alien to me since I have nothing to reference it against... but I'm sure looking forward to learning!

Hi Classwife, always good to see another Floridian.

Best of luck to you. Just be careful, it's easy to go overboard on all the vaping gear.

Sounds like you know me...

I've definitely got an obsessive side, and tend to get involved 210% in anything new.
(When I fist got started on saltwater aquariums I went from having one small tank with 2 fish to over ten large tanks with full-blown coral reefs in 6 months. The house looked like a fish store.)
If I'm not careful, 6 months from now I'll have taken over part of the house and turned it into a complete mad scientist/alchemist/electronics lab for all things vaping... and the wife will have something new to roll her eyes about.
