Hello, everyone! My name is Staphanie and I've been a rather light (2 packs a week) smoker for about 16 years. My hubby and I are recent (2 days now) converts to e-cigs and are loving it. I've been waiting for a basic starter pack to hit mainstream markets here in the US just so I could get a feel for them while I did further research and found something a little more customizeable. Found the Xhale starter kit at 7-11 a couple of days ago and am just now recharging mine. My husband had to recharge the first day, but he is more of a smoker than I. The devices seem to work pretty well, and we like the added benefit of no stench, and no crappy feeling afterwards like what you get with a traditional smoke. We're so excited about these things that we got rid of all the ashtrays on the balcony (we've got kids so smoking inside was never allowed). We tried smoking a traditional today, just to see if we needed to keep a pack on standby. The experience was pretty horrid all around.
I've learned a lot already just poking around the forum, but can't seem to find any happy posts about the Xhale. Are they really that terrible? As I've stated before, I'm not a heavy smoker, but I would hate for my cig to crap out on me when I really, really wanted to vape. What are some warning signs I should look for regarding complete failure? Can the cartomizers of the Xhale be filled with a certain brand of liquid, or is there a different model of cartomizer that I could look for online that would fit the Xhale model?
As for my search on something a little more flashy/powerful, I do enjoy the size of my current model, but hate that its so bland. I love color, and I am a gadget collector (hey, there are worse hobbies/habits) I would appreciate any suggestions on vendors that have the largest color selection for 400 or 500 type models (these seem closest to the size of the Xhale). I'm also excited about the flavors out there too. I'm a culinary student so protecting my tastebuds and sense of smell from the ash and tar of a traditional smoke is another big draw to the e-cig. I'm curious if I can make my own flavors, or am I stuck with whatever blends are out there? If I can make my own, what would be the best model to try them out in?
Thanks for having such a wonderful, active and informative place for those of us looking to live a better lifestyle!

Welcome SouthPro! I might able to help you by relating how I started with all this. I used a riva and an eGo for over six months with great satisfaction, both are decent quality and inexpensive. 510 is the most popular battery fitting for cartomizers and atomizers. Most cartos can be refilled with any e-liquid. Liberty-flights is where I have gotten a lot of batteries and cartos from, before I switched to mods and attys.

Welcome to ECF & congratulations to you & your husband on your decision to switch to vaping! I don't know anything at all about the Xhale e-cigs - I've seen them mentioned here on the forum but can't recall what they were determined to be. *If* they are a model KR808 (which I seem to recall they may be) there are a number of good suppliers for cartos & batteries of higher quality & at better prices. Are the Xhales you have about the size of tobacco cigarettes? Most new vapers start out with cigarette look-alikes (more or less) and pretty rapidly become ready for a more hassle-free, option-rich vaping experience.

There are options galore available, but not many in a cig-sized PV. The best thing I'd suggest at this point is to read all you can here & ask all the questions you like. There will be a lot of folks along, probably before I finish typing this, to help guide you. Also, keep an open mind regarding the importance - to you, at this time - of form vs. function in the PVs you & your husband choose. Perhaps the most important thing of all is that each of you choose one that you will use & enjoy for now, not something that will drive you back to setting little bonfires of rubbish beneath your noses.

No PV is perfect and there is a learning curve involved to find out what works best for the individual, but that's a lot of the fun for many of us. So, allow yourselves to get excited and be prepared to be amazed. If you'd like for it to this "vaping" thing can be a lot of fun - plus, your health gets better!

Blessings, & Happy Vaping! :vapor:

Welcome SouthProMom, congrats on finding e-cigs(Personal Vaporisers) to help your husband and yourself easily quit smoking.
Do some research first, then when funds permit buy a couple of "back-ups" for your current units. Your current units may, in fact, become your back-ups.

A lot of folks go with cigar sized batteries for longer life and more power.
Less charging and more vapor and heat, for a more realistic "smoking/vapng" experience.

If you haven't checked out the library yet, it's here...The ECF Library

Cheers Hitme:vapor::vapor:

Thanks for the link! The nicotine part of smoking has never been that much of an interest, but inhaling various flavors has always been a fascination of mine - possibly a culinary thing :). I see being able to create my own flavors as an inspiring backdrop for creating desserts and such. I'll have to read up and learn some more before trying out some though, and of course see what's already out there.

Yes, the Xhale is about the size of a cigarette. It's a little heavier and automatic. I'm hoping to find something not too bulky that comes in a wide range of choose-your-own colors. I really am not a fan of the traditional cigarette colors, and seeing as vaping is a completely different experience from a paper cig, I'd like to celebrate that difference as much as possible. Besides, a purple LED is so cool (lol). Anyway, we're open to most options at this point, and coming from a Windows/Linux background, we're anxious to learn all we can so we can consider ourselves advanced enough to do some really cool stuff with our newfound joy. PS - we took the kids on a long walk today and actually reached the park at the top of the hill near our home without stopping to gasp for air. Sweet.

The reason that the small, analog sized, units are not so popular amoung experienced vapers is that the battery life is just not sufficient... It is really annoying when a battery is out of juice at an inconvenient moment. The "eGo sized" ones are still smaller than many cigars... And last most folks a full 8 hours or so of heavy use... Plus, they can run LR attys and cartos no problem, which smaller batts probably won't be able to handle. But like Warren said, you will need to find what works the best for you.

Edit: eGo style "fat batt" devices come in many various colors.
