Just some doubts i have

Hey so im going to start vaping in about a week and i still dont understand some terms, like puffs and coils? are those important?

Also is it better to have variable wattage or voltage? cause as far as i know there are some devices that only have one of the options some have both like the VW right? thats the one im getting

Also today i went to a e-cig store and the guy let me taste an eGo-T, i only had one go at it and tbh it burned my throat, it didnt feel good at all. Is it because of the device or the batteries may be dying? maybe because of my inexperience? (i love hookahs and have never had that burned taste up untill the end where the carbon is almost burnt) idk but that wasnt a good experience i would have prefered analogs to that eGo-T. Will my VW be better?

Thanks for your attention i gotta say this is a nice community.

You may have just tried a flavor you didn't like, or the PG/VG mix was too off for you.

Puffs are just hits, like a cigarette. And coils are the element that actually creates the vapor. Battery powers the coil, which is a wire element that heats up and creates the vapor. Kind of like dropping water on a hot frying pan.

The experience is extremely personal, everyone likes different things. You can totally control the taste, flavor, throat hit based on personal preference. If you have a local shop that lets you sample flavors, that's a huge bonus, the trial and error was the most difficult part for me in finding a flavor I enjoyed.

Hi, and welcome.

I haven't been around in a looong while and am trying to figure out if there is anything new and noteworthy. I'll try to address some of your questions.

First off, the basics of vaping are quite simple - you apply electrical power (Watts) to a coil that turns it into heat. The heat vaporizes e-juice. The resulting vapor's volume and warmth is dependant on the applied power.

There are two main ways to affect the power: changing the voltage or changing the resistance (Ohms) of the coil. The higher the voltage or the lower the resistance, the higher the power.

In fact, power = voltage x voltage / resistance

Variable voltage is straightforward - as you increase the voltage the power increases. However, you must take care when the resistance of you vaping head changes as a different voltage will be required to achieve the same power with a different resistance.

To change the resistance of the coil, you can either buy various vaping attachments - atomizers, cartomizers, clearomizers, x-mizers - which are built with a given resistance; or you can build your own coil in the so-called rebuildable atomizers. By varying the gauge of the wire and the number of wraps, you achieve then various resistances.

Variable wattage devices make it somewhat simpler since they take care of the physics for you - regardless of the resistance, they automatically adjust the voltage to achieve the set power.

No device is 'better', however each vaper has a 'sweet spot' in terms of power. Some like fiddling with power all the time - changing it around for different moments of the day or for different juices. Some others don't find this important. It all depends on you. You really have to find your own sweet spot...

Burning throat is usually not a result of a certain power setting, but rather the inability of the atomizer to 'keep up'. If there isn't enough juice to vaporize, then you get a dry hit which burns your throat. Ego-T is very liable to create such an experience. To avoid that you should use a higher quality atomizer system rather than variable voltage / wattage. I'm not sure what the 'current fad' is, but trying something like the 'semi-rebuildable' tanks that are around (Drunker, ProTank) seems to be a good choice these days.

Hope some of this helps.

Who knows what the stores are doing. Maybe you got a dry hit because the coil wasn't wet.

What flavor did you try? & what device are you gonna get?
It all has to do with the delivery device. There had to be something going on with that. Even a VV or VW device wont be good without a decent delivery system on it. Try a Kanger Protank or Evod. They are very reliable & popular with many. That's what I use.

Inhaling vapor is different than inhaling smoke. There is a different technique for vaping. If you use the search function on this forum for that and other questions, you will be overwhelmed with information and probably get questions answered quickly.

I have found that there are times when my throat will not like a vape. Usually the first thing in the morning. It can even happen with no nicotine in my eliquid. The second vape will be fine for me.

The eGo batteries are fairly inexpensive and easy to use, charge and have a short learning curve. I started on eGo batteries. I was happy. I used the clearomizers that have the wicks (just like it sounds: strands of fiber that look like wicks) on the top of the tank. I didn't like them because they would dry out too quickly when I vaped a lot (chain vaping) and I would get a "dry hit" which tastes like burnt fiber/wick. I went to the Kanger (manufacturer) bcc (bottom coil clearomizer) type devices. I use the evod (model name) and the MT3S (model name) and the Pro Tank 2 (model name). You can google all of them and watch youtube reviews on all of them. IN FACT, the youtube reviews of all the vaping gear are wonderful!

There are cartomizers and clearomizers. One uses wicks, coils and a tank of liquid (clearomizers) one uses a tube filled with a filler material and a coil system in the tube - with or without a tank of liquid (cartomizers). This is really simplistic and I don't want to get myself all tied up because I don't know all the correct jargon either!!! LOL! They have their pros and cons and fans and not so fans.

You need a power source, the battery. You need something that will vaporize the liquid, the clearomizer or the cartomizer. You need some tasty juice with some nicotine if you are replacing cigarettes with vaping. The level of nicotine will depend on the amount of cigarettes you currently smoke. The nicotine level (IMHO) is the least of your worries. Err on the higher side and then buy some in the next lower concentration. If it is too much nicotine, you can mix it with a lower concentration liquid and get what you need. I mix 18mg, 12mg, 6mg and 0mg nicotine liquids all the time to get what I want at any given time of day or in response to the stress of any given situation.

It is easy to get started. Once you have equipment in hand, you can learn what you like. I don't think it hurts to have an eGo set up in your supplies. Even if you switch to an expensive VV or VW device, it is important to have a back up (and even a back up for your back up as they say around here.)

I am sorry if this is too long. Just thought I would offer my :2c:

I honestly didn't enjoy CE4-type clearos very much (and this iclear thing seems to be one). But, hey, you never know what works for you.

The above recommendations appear to be a little more accepted as reliable in terms of performance: ProTank and eVod (almost the same but smaller). These are all bottom coil - self explanatory. Therefore gravity works for, not against you.

you know it all depends on what you been smoking you have internet look it up find out what the mg of the pack of smokes is use that mg in your vapor as far as flavor goes change it up they all tend to lose taste when I started vaping it always made me caugh the first puff or 2 not sure why but I got over it I use a vivi nova and a ego t 650 milliamp just make sure you can change wicks cause the other style seems to be a waste I have about 4 burned up ones in a drawer and you need to wash your e cig with water at least once a week or more to keep it from tasting burnt

Well thanks everyone for your answers! and i hope i can get cool vapes when i start, thats what i'm aiming for.

@jcco i cant remember the flavor, im gonna get an itaste VW. A delivery system is the tank u put on the pv? isnt the iclear16 good?

Correct, the delivery system is whatever holds the juice & goes on top of your device. There are so many choices I just went with what seemed popular & they work for me. I'm not familiar with the iclear16. I have read good things about it.
You really should try to get a few different tops to see which ones you like.

if you go for the iclear16 id give you one bit of advise, there are different versions which are ce with a number. the ce4 are disposable and single coil so the coil cant be fixed are cleaned really and need binned quicker. the ce5/ce5+ or duel coil and are rebuild-able so coils can be changed and cleaned easy, so they last longer and the vape is warmer as it has two coils that are on top part of the tank. there is ce8 ones too that use bottom coils but haven't used them as i dont really like how you have to vape them, they use mesh coil in a center post.

i believe these are good for starters, me included lol. but if you are id go for the ce5 with duel coils that are replaceable. there are so many clearomizers that are better but i really like how simple and cheap these are, best not to get the doggy dirt cheap ones. after you get hocked theres lots of time to try all the clearomizer to find your best of the lot, but i will still use the iclear16 ce5 down the road as i like them. everyones different and likes different ones and youll need to try them to know but for only starting they are decent.

@glowplug the you think i should buy a clearomizer(?) or the tanks where you suck from? lol i dunno the name. Isnt the iclear 16 good?

I don't have any experience with the iclear 16. I used a CE4 that came with my eGo starter kit. It was OK, just didn't seem to be right for me with my vaping style. The bottom coil clearomizers work for me. I think you should get some different types. They are inexpensive and you can try both styles easily. GO to youtube. It is really a great way to SEE what you are getting before you get it. They have beginner videos and experienced videos that make my eyes bleed. I just wanna vape! I don't want to rebuild coils, modify mods or put diamonds on my wick! LOL!

It is personal preference. There is no wrong answer. IF you are on a really tight budget, go back to the store you found and try some different setups. I don't know anyplace that will not let you try stuff. Even if you use a "friend tip" and use the employee's personal setup. The CE4's are made to be throw away and last a month or so. They are cheap. The evod is cheap as well. Buy both. Try both. Then you are off and running in your vapequest! It is so hard to learn all you need to know before you start vaping. You just have to jump in and then decide what you like.

You know,

if we had analyzed smoking the way we do vaping, we'd never have started. lol.

Get a kit. Try it out. Be glad you switched. THEN come back and get into the details. Just get enough for now to know how to fill a carto and vape. The other stuff will fall into place.

Sometimes all this information is too much. It's OK to do some research, sure. But don't get so overloaded that you forget to vape. A lot of it is personal preference. You won't know until you check it out. Wasn't the other day a Schrödinger's Cat day? Sometimes you have to open up the box to collapse all the possibilities.

:)

Huh? There are CE4s, CE5s AND iClear 16s. Innokin makes the iClear line and they have the iClear 16 and 30. I have never, ever seen the CE4 or 5 designation applied to an iClear clearo.

I think he's confusing the generic term "clearomizer" (which applies to many devices) with "iClear" (which is one specific brand/design of clearomizer). The CE4/5 clearos are a completely different device than the iClear.

As far as the OP's question - while I haven't tried the iClear 16 myself, it seems to get generally good reviews. The CE4 (at least the original design, not the "4+") is a disposable unit - you can't replace/rebuild the atomizer head...when it burns out, you just toss the entire unit. As somebody else mentioned, the Kanger Evod is a good choice - they're rugged, simple to fill/use, simple to replace the atomizer when it burns out and the replacement atomizers are inexpensive. They can also be rebuilt (re-coiled), but that's a subject for later on down the line...not something a brand-new vaper will probably want to mess with.

Whichever delivery device you buy, make sure that you buy at least a few replacement atomizers for it - they all clog up and/or burn out eventually (within days to weeks), and you don't want to be caught without a replacement when it happens. The motto of vaping is "have backups, and backups for your backups". It's pretty much analogous to a smoker having an extra few packs of cigs handy for when they run out and/or in case their pack of smokes gets wet, crushed, etc.
