Just started with provari mini very frustrated.

Hey guys I just started this week, actually monday is when I got my provari mini with the default i30s clearo tank. I saw a youtube vid on how to fill her up avoiding the middle 'coil i think' thing and so I unscrewed the tank and poured some diamondback tobacco that came as a sample. At first I just figured it is a strong flavor, but started cigar-ish and has actually gotten worse the past several days (ive really only tried it about 10 different occasions, I'm still on my first 18350 battery). Now the flavor is a burnt ash tray taste and it leaves a very bitter residue in my mouth and burns my throat and lungs way more than my marlboro reds ever have. Granted I could be doing this all wrong and i even took it to a local vape shop but the guy said he didn't recall how to use a provari (which is strange bc he had a huge lock/tacklebox with like 80 various parts in it) and he just said 'yea man its just a strong flavor plus im used to 6mcg nicotine!'

So no luck there, when I got home I unscrewed the top mouthpiece thing (i think driptip?) and took the tank off and dumped it out in an effort to replace the juice with the other sample which arrived with the starter kit, watermelon. I noticed some of the juice was actually in the mouthpiece and some more (a tiny bit) was in the little hole that connects to the provari at bottom of tank.

I used paper towels to clean this up and put the watermelon juice in (i probably should have soaked it in soapy water from what ive read, but I was scared I'd F things up more and am not sure what can get wet with regard to the tank). Nope, still burnt crappy taste. My start to vaping has been extremely rocky to say the least and I just want a way to fix this. Should I just go out and grab a new tank at a local shop and start with a fresh flavor? I was so stoked to begin with, but now not so much :(

Hi

I'm sorry you're having problems. Personally, I would ditch the clearo and start over. Keep in mind that (although they can be expensive) these things are little pieces of mass-produced plastic/glass/metal/whatever with iffy QC. It's hard enough to quit smoking, but adding to that the stress of stuff not working can make one crazy.

Shops, while convenient, are expensive. You could likely get more than one type of juice delivery system online than what you would pay in a shop for one. I'm sure you will get lots of suggestions for different juice devices, but off the top of my head (keeping price in mind) I've had good luck with this one:

HyperTank 5ml Pyrex BCC -Black Chrome

And these are popular:

Kanger EVOD Glass V2

Aspire BDC - Mini Nautilus

My first thoughts would be too much power for that juice and/or coil. Click the button on your provari seven times "PD" should display. Wait a few seconds and a number will display. Lowest is 2.9 volts just starting out I would start 3.1 to 3.3. After you set the desired voltage wait until display goes off then it will be set at that power level. The next thing is wick is not getting saturated with juice properly. Try a couple of puffs without pushing button to prime the wick then try to vape it.

A couple of thoughts here. The first is that vaping is really nothing like smoking; if the vapor stings your throat/lungs then keep it in your mouth and get your nicotine that way. I've also realised, far too late in my vaping life, that tobacco flavours are not the best idea. Former smokers automatically go for them, but there's no good reason for it.

Where you are now, I would say get another clearo and set the original aside to dry out properly. It will be fine, I have four iclear 30s and they work great. With the new one, follow the instructions carefully and my bet is you'll be OK. Teething troubles are just that, by definition they don't last.

Welcome to ECF and happy vaping.

I seriously dislike B&M's. They act like they are God's gift to vapers when they don't have a clue. DON'T HAVE A CLUE! There are exceptions, of course, but this has been my experience in 99% of them. One shop I visited, the owner never heard of a ProVari or ECF! One time, we were in one of our local ones, when a customer walked in who had never vaped and wanted to get started. My girlfriend and I had to leave. When we got out to the car, she said it was so hard to not say anything to that poor guy. Like I told her, it wasn't our place. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about their lack of knowledge, we all have to start somewhere and it is quite a learning curve. It's their attitude....

When I first started I went the route of clearomisers carto's of every kind. drip tips U name it i tried it and some how they all were junk and I failed terrible even with buying the Provari Mod everything always tasted burt after a few days. I just now started to try again got out my provari and got a Kanger unitank pro 3 tank. Well my wife said she got 2 weeks out of each atty. well same deal. I had the burnt taste after 4 to 5 hours of vaping and was going thru 2 replacement attys a day so I got a Brass monkey from the store here and town and a bottle of sejuiced sour apple made my first coil myself after watching a ton of Youtube videos and loved it.

So that was the start of a beautiful thing In no time I was making all kinds of build I found on the web and having a great time and great vap every time But once again the Provari was alway giving me trouble because of it restricted Ohm range but I was doing way better and having fun.

Next I got me a Kuma copper clone and now I was really cooking within 2 days I was building coils for my brass monkey that could fill the room with one blast and when I ordered the Kuma copper I got a Kayfun lite as it was a deal from the site I got the Kuma mod from and got a Hcigar Kayfun for 15 bucks with my mod purchase and man that thing smokes like smoky the bear in a forest fire LOL.

So My point it this to succeed quitting if you have been smoking as long as I have u dont do it puffin on 6 mg nic juice and some little tank u need to get some big guns not tinker toys. I spent over 300 bucks the first time buying my provari but at the time it was the best u could buy but the gear u could get back then was nothing to write home about and it was costly but today U can pick a beastly clone for 45 $ that rocks your world and it fun to play with as well the thing about quitting is keeping your hands busy and you mind off cigs and make rebuildables does both plus give you a vapin experience that make it easy to forget all about Tobacco Products

They getting something like the set up I bought and say goodby the to nasty tastin vap and tobacco all in one motion

Two good posts in response so far.

What is the volt setting?
Are you familiar with the need to allow a new atomizer the opportunity to wick liquid BEFORE you take that first hit under power?

Your description really sounds like the filler material in the head of your atomizer is burnt. Happens.

Put a new head in the iClear.
Fill the iClear and set it aside for at least 5 minutes.
Set the volts on your Provari to like 3.6.

After putting the atty onto the Provari, and after having allowed it to sit for 5 minutes or so, take a few hits without pressing the button.
This is known as a primer hit, helps draw liquid into the wicks and coil.

When you do hit the button do so tentatively at first. Hold it on for like 2 seconds while you take a drag. Do this a couple of times then gradually hold it for a bit longer.

The whole idea here is take slow incremental steps to ensure that wick/filler material has had time to soak up liquid and get it to the coil.

HTH and don't give up. Bit of a learning curve to vaping but so very worth it!

I agree with others on here and have to say I too got an Iclear 30 with my ProVari mini when I first got it and had the same awful experiences as you have. I hate IClears and didn't realize this until I tried other tanks out.

I'd highly recommend the Nautilus Standard size or mini with the BVC coils. They do need to sit/prime after filling, but once they do, a way better vape experience than the IClears. Also, carto tanks, Like IBtanked is a great option as well.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, and no I didn't let the juice sit at all, I filled it up (its pretty thick juice) and started puffing right away. I tried turning the voltage to all different kinds of settings with no taste difference. I think I will grab a nautilus tank and grab some fruity flavors at the same time. I dont care how much it costs because switching to vape in the long run will save me tons, at least thats the way I look at it. How long to let the juice sit in the nautilus? Also, how should I hold the provari when puffing or store it, vertical, flat, or does it matter?

Some snapping. popping, and sizzling is normal, but if it's throwing up hot liquid into your mouth there is probably too much liquid on the coil. If it's not too bad just try vaping through it and it might settle itself out. Also, try taking the iclear off the device and blow through into a paper towel, see how much liquid comes out, then try again. If it's actually gurgling/bubbling it's definitely flooded.

Sounds like we're gettin' there Brett, good deal.

The attitude that you hold your PV while using it or when setting it down shouldn't make any difference as long as your using a clearo.
It starts to become a real consideration when you get into rebuildable tank systems. Don't worry 'bout that for the now.

When is it primed?
Like I mentioned, take the primer hits, no power, and you should see a bubble or two rise up from the head after each dry hit pull.
On my Aspire BDC's as example when brand new these bubbles will be fairly large at first with a brand new head. After several dry hits they become smaller.
What your seeing is the air in the filler being replaced by liquid, hence the bubbles.

Let a new head when first filled sit for 5 minutes or so.
Do a few dry hits.
Turn the volts down to 3.4, 3.6 for the first powered hit.
Make the first couple of powered hits short.
As you get vaper slowly bump the voltage up, take longer puffs.

This will become secod nature in no time!

I'm on 2 days with the iClear and although I'm giving up some flavor, I'm gaining zero gurgling, flooding and leakage. As others have stated, this one needs to prime. I'll also repeat that when you initially fill it up (I do this without waiting) take a few short drags without power. This will pull liquid into the wick. Notice if you do this how you will now have only a half tank showing. That's because the liquid was soaked into the wick. I just top it off and go. Now the one with the bad taste...pull that cart out and toss it. The wick and coil are toast. Use a fresh cart and follow this advice. You'll be much happier. Good luck!
