K Loud (hotcig) Airflow

I recently got a K Loud and have been working with it for a few days now. Not a bad little tank atty and I like it so far. Yea, it appears to be a slight leaker but nothing major. Definitely more of a desktop type of device than something you want to carry around.

I've been looking at the airflow design, and not sure about other clones, but on this hotcig, those holes going through the amber colored plastic tank are really thin. I also noticed the holes on the steel cap don't line up all that great with the holes in the tank itself. I helped that out a bit with a dremel on the steel cap, making the holes a hair wider.

Just wondering if anyone has successfully opened up the airflow in the plastic tank itself to get a better draw? I've been thinking about carefully running maybe a 1/32 bit through each hole in the plastic. Anyone try doing that to improve the draw?

You might want to twist those bits by hand rather than use a drill.

I have some 24G wire going through the airflow holes. Looking at the two color shades on the tank, not much room near that wire to work. The lighter color area would be the tank section. It's a risky project. I wouldn't want to lend an assist to increased leakage potential. Probably best to pass on this idea. Hopefully an area where the cloners could give some thought to improvements with future design. Get some wider airflow along with a better drip-tip!

What I would try is to get a needle file small enough to fit in the hole, and slowly widen the hole upward, avoiding the area close to the hollow tank part, as clay pointed out there isn't much room between the hollow part and the airflow hole so if you drill a larger hole with the same center it will break into the tank section.

Good luck! I was really excited about the KLoud before but after trying one out the airflow was just way too tight, and clones weren't around yet so the idea of hacking up an expensive atty didn't sit well with me. Hopefully you can get something working because it's a nifty atty other than the extremely tight airflow.

I hear you on hacking up something expensive. I think mine was around $12, so I don't mind if I ruin it, but its still less than 2 weeks old for me. What I have been doing is setting up one hole on the steel cap directly in front of the coil/wick. That will enable enough airflow to at least get a semi half decent lung hit. Doing this, one airflow hole on the steel cap will obviously be blocked off, but the one in front of the coil I find works much better than setting up both holes with the very thin tank airflow holes.

I used a 5/64 drill bit to enlarge the hole on the tank. You have to be careful and stay below the tank reservoir.
It improves the draw sgnificantly, however, I still hate the atty.

I decided to go with a 1/16th bit and a dremel. Like mr. fabe has noted, significant improvement even though I stayed away from the 5/64th. There isn't much room there between the holes and the reservoir. I'm glad I decided to go ahead and try this fix.
