k100/101 with protank as my first mod, not ready for drip yet...thoughts?

I currently run a protank with an X6 and I love it compared to the simple setup I started with. I am intrigued by the big vapor you get with mechanical mods, and I know its almost always from a drip atomizer. Im not quite ready for a drip atomizer, and I know tank-drip attys are really expensive. However, I do like the idea of being able to run 2000mah+ batteries in the k100 on the go. Im wondering what kind of results I would see with the protank and the k100. Should I run the 1.8 coils? How much usage time can I realistically see from a tank on a 1.8 coil? Also, since the batteries start out around 4 volts, is there any danger of frying a 1.8 ohm coil with a voltage like that? fasttech seems to have the cheapest mods, but I have heard the batteries and chargers they sell are something to stay away from.

Can anyone provide any input? Thanks guys!

1.8 is fine. I'm usually around 1.5-1.7. If you want to get into Rebuildable Drip atomizers you should get some kanthal and silica and try rebuilding the Protank first. You have to be careful with full mech and know you have no shorts, etc. I use a mech mod with a Kick for wattage regulation. i just got a drip atty (Igo-W) and I'm currently drilling out the air holes on it. Takes awhile for Stainless Steel. My first 2 builds on it were crap. I bought the Igo-W for 14$ BTW. The clones aren't that much. My advise is to go slow. Master your current set, research and move slowly.

My first mech mod was a K100 and I had and IgoL (RDA) on it. It was all super easy and fairly straight forward. The guy at the store I bought it at warned against the batteries and charger it came with so I bought an Intellicharger and some Efest 18500 1110 mah batteries which worked just fine. Altogether it came out to $120. After learning how to build coils I was getting fat clouds. I still dont much about how to rate the coils themselves but I haven't burned any out. My advice is go for it!

Regarding the fasttech batteries and charger. They do sell the Panasonic batteries which are some of the best batteries on the market. Also the nitecore i2 and i4 chargers are highly regarded to. I've got both batteries and charger from them and to be honest, they are superb. I would definitely recommend them. As with anything on FT, do some research first and read the reviews before buying to see what's suitable. Some of their gear is rubbish, but I guess that's the case with any on-line retailer :D

I have ordered probably 4 set ups from fasttech. I did read the reviews on them before ordering and only ordered with good reviews. I am a little concerned though because now I'm on the forum I am hearing I should be staying away from them. I will say I can't stand the long wait to get their stuff in the mail! I did get a K100 already from them and seems to not have any problems but I haven't had to charge it yet.

Must admit there are plenty of people who love them and plenty of people who hate them, we've all got our own opinions. I've had 10 or more orders from them, with a 95% success rate so far. That includes juices, tools, mods, tanks, batteries etc. For me the postage isn't an issue, living in the UK my FT orders arrive before orders from the USA.

If you want some more info on FT there's a major thread over in the Fasttech section over a thousand pages long I think. Some good info on there :D

Im not really that interested in standard drip atomizers for now. As I understand it, a saturated wick will only give you so many puffs before you need to redrip. How long do coils and wicks last between rebuilds?

Unless there is an option for some kind of combination tank+drip atomizer, I basically want the K100 as a high capacity battery for my protank. Im just curious what kind of battery life I would see, and if there are any safety concerns I need to be aware of besides the usual of buying a high quality battery and charger. Since I am using a over 1 ohm coil in my protank, I dont need to worry about excessive amps, right? How do I know when the batteries are low enough that I should charge them to avoid damage?

My current setup is a k100 with a protank and i rebuild all my coils. You can run 1.8 ohms if your using silica but i use hemp wick as the flavor wicks for mine so i cant go lower then 2.1 ohms otherwise itll burn the hemp. Def my favorite setup as ive been running it for the past 3 weeks straight havent even touched my vamo except to check ohms. 4/5 wraps 32g kanthal on 3mm silica wick with 1mm unraveled hemp wick as my flavor wicks = win

How does the k100 compare to the KTS+? I'm new to vaping and got an evic as my first mod. I want to try mechanicals because i'm noticing how much better vapor you get...problem is i've never been one to DIY, how often do you need to maintain these? Sorry to threadjack.
K100 & KTS vape pretty similar IMHO. Have tried the K100 & have a KTS. I prefer the Kts' side switch over the bottom switch the K100 has.
