Kanger K-Simar - Harsh throat hit, barely any vapour

Hi guys!

I purchased a Kanger K-Simar, with an Aerotank Mega which came with a pair of 2.0ohm coils and an AW 18650 battery a couple of months ago.

It was working brilliantly when I was using the 2.0ohm coils. Great flavour, plenty of vapour and just an all round excellent vape. However, when I had burnt out both of my 2.0ohm coils, I had to buy 1.8ohm dual coils, having been informed that Kanger had stopped making the 2.0ohm ones.

Ever since I've switched to the 1.8ohm coils, I've had nothing but problems. The throat hit is way too harsh (I'm coughing after most hits), the vapour has decreased massively, and the taste is occasionally off (not necessarily burnt, but not entirely pleasant). I've also noticed that the popping noise you usually get when taking a vape isn't as noticeable anymore, and sometimes it isn't there at all.

I've been vaping the same juice and nic strength (16mg) ever since I got my first e-cig. It's never been harsh on my throat, and the vapour production has always been excellent.

I usually vape at around 10-12 watts, however I've played around with the wattage and even gone down to 7-8 watts and it's still not hitting like it used to. I've also used my friends MVP 2.0 with the same juice and that was just as normal, so I know it's nothing to do with the juice/nic strength.

I've been filling my tank as I always have, I've even let the juice sit there for an entire day and to no avail.

I must have gone through six different coils in the space of a month. It's getting really annoying now, as I've been switching back to cigarettes as a last resort.

I'm not enjoying vaping at all anymore, and I'm fed up of switching back to analogues all the time.

I'm starting to think that there's something wrong with the mod/battery as i've been through so many coils now.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :)

12 watts is very high for that rig. Also, is it possible you are in mean mode instead of RMS. Classic too much power signs. I have found that once I overdrive a coil it is done, never tastes good again. Sounds like you have been at it for awhile so I won't go into priming etc.

I have found that the ohms listed are often very different to what they really are. do you have a meter?

You can still get 2ohm coils through dhgate.

I'm not sure what you mean by mean mode/RMS :(

And by meter, I'm presuming you mean ohms meter? I don't have one of those. The mod has always over read the ohms, it reads these coils at 1.9, and when I was using the 2.0ohm coils, it was reading them at around 2.1 to 2.2.

Also, I usually always vape at 10.5, and I have never had any problems prior to switching to the lower ohm coils. I just occasionally have switched up to 12 watts.

Thanks for your reply!

I notice no difference between 2 or 1.8 ohm coils.
Do the power heads say kanger tech?
The "dualies" are a bit longer & don't fit all tanks. Not familiar with yours.
As a last resort, buy from a different vendor. You may be getting counterfeits.
Good luck & don't cave.

Yeah they do. I bought my first pack off amazon, and my second pack from a reputable shop that I always use, near to where I live.

This is what is causing me to think that it's an issue with the mod or the battery :(

Could the mod have faulted in the space of two months? It's had a couple of knocks when it's fallen over etc but nothing that has caused it any visible damage or that I think would have broken it. Could it be the battery?

Not familiar with your mod but check your owners manual or an online source and see if it can be changed between mean and RMS and how to do it..

I have had as good or even better luck with "clone" coils. Though two of the 1.5's were in fact 1.2, they were awesome! I have had only two that tasted weird and didn't seem to put outAnother thing that might be worth noting and have not read it anywhere is I wipe/rub the outer housing of my coils with a paper towel before installing. I don't trust the Chicoms to have anything clean.

Hello.. :)

I can't see why dropping to 1.8ohms should cause an issue using a variable wattage device.

6 coils in a month is hardly a disaster....although it might appear I vape a lot (and post a lot) I don't actually vape that much. Kanger coils taste crap after 3 or 4 days to me, so that's not even 10ml of liquid.

Your K-Simar should be OK, although sometimes these mods are set to "Mean" not "RMS" and that can cause trouble. I had this with my Vamo once and it FRIED everything in sight. Maybe your Simar is just messed up... that can happen as well.

I would be tempted to get a different type of clearomiser and see how that works. The equipment to test your Simar whilst it's firing an atomiser is not easily bought. Maybe if you bought a mini Nautilus BVC instead it wouldn't actually matter how powerfully your mod is running at. Seriously, it's going to be tough to work out much with a design of atomiser that is know to burn at high power. You may well have bought fake heads, there are plenty of them around... in fact maybe you should order a few from somewhere 100% reliable and try them as well.

Where was your K-Simar from? I have only seen 1 "reputable" shop (London) selling them, and they are the worst for selling rubbish to customers and not really giving a s*** if doesn't work or you need to exchange.

Good luck, whatever. :)
