So this is my first adventure into the "sub " territory, and also first time with an rda
well, my initial impression , with the preintalled tank, was Wow! Amazing.
Except I chain vape.... On zero nic..... Regularly about 20-30 ml liquid in weekends when I don't work.
Using my Evic supreme, I noticed a full tank goes in one hour, but so does an entire 2500 mah battery.
Also I need to stop, because after a few puffs, the tank gets burning hot.
I don't inhale per se, I smoked for 20 years of my life, with vape I just puff, in my mouth, non stop.
So too hot is my first problem, plus battery life.
Then I tried the RDA. Horrible leaking. Horrible dry hits.
I figured out I put too much cotton, or wicked wrongly. Changed the cotton, now it wasn't leaking but I still had dry hits plenty. I put a little piece of cotton on top of my coil, just loose floating in the chimney . Problem solved, no more dry hits.
But the flavor kind of sucks now....
I used the cotton provided with the mini.... I don't know if it's Japanese or not, but the flavor in the rda just isn't the same as the one with the prebuilt coil....
Why?
And also, I found that with my own cotton, I get much less flavor, the tank still gets too hot fast, although my watts are only 18-20....
I don't know what to do anymore.... For how much I vape I can't afford to buy coils non stop, I need at least 2-3 a day... I should mention I also rewicked the original head, with clean cotton, but it still doesn't taste as good as originally.
ready to go back to my Aspire et-s and iclear30s and aeromega ......

Check out this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/clearomizers/644323-kangertech-subtank-mini.html
There are many posts with how to's on wicking the RBA and pictures showing the builds. Many build it with the wick tails just touching the deck and making sure not to block the juice channels and have no flooding, dry hits or diminished flavor.

Thank you !
A lot of literature :)
I think I solved my flavor problem, not the extreme heat one though.....
I don't know if it's safe or not, but I made my wicks from regular cotton cheese cloth .... Gorgeous flavor and no dry hits....
If I could just figure out what do do so this tank wouldn't get so hot..... My Evic supreme doesn't even lower my wattage past a certain value with these coils....

Your problem is probably like others that have the "too hot" problem. These are not your typical clearo's, but people try to use them like they are. I don't mean that in a mean way, just that you have to use these differently. They want/need a good amount of airflow. Judging from your post I gather you are using the one, maybe 2, airflow option. Problem is your device sounds like it doesn't have step down, it instead is telling you, by not allowing you to lower the watts beyond a specific level, that this is the lowest you can vape. That wattage/volts is probably too high for the low/weak airflow you are accustom to.

The 1.2Ω coil should let you get low enough that you can comfortably use the lower airflow options. The .5Ω coil needs airflow too cool it down. You can get away with it at 20 watts on the 1 or 2 hole setting, but not chain vaping it.

My two cents - I have been having a ton of flooding issues with my subtank mini rba, using 100% VG, that I make myself. If its not flooding, its dry hitting.

About an hour ago, I made a plain coil (spaced evenly, about 1.0 ohm), vertically positioned and lowered above the air hole at much as I felt comfy with (prob 2mm high). I used japanese cotton, cut about 1/2 inch across, with the top and bottom sheeting peeled away, and slightly rolled at the tip to get it through the coil. I pulled it through the bottom of the coil just a tad to keep a hold of it, and then split the cotton at the top of the coil in half so that they could be positioned at the fluid flow holes. I pulled the cotton back up a bit, and trimmed the bottom so that it sits just above the air hole. I then reattached the chimney section, and positioned the cotton so that air can move around the coil, and soaked with fluid. I test fired to make sure the vapor could get around the coil and cotton, and reassembled the tank and added fluid.

I have been chain vaping it almost the entire hour, and have only primed it (holding a finger over the hole while drawing in) a few times when I thought it might be dry. So far, no dry hits, and no flooding. I have been able to take long lung hits and not afraid of the consequences. Its not leaking out the air holes. If it continues this way, I will make a video to show the process, but it is very basic vertical coil.

I have been so happy with this build that I had to share.....this tank has been nothing but a pain in my .... because I use 100% vg.

So, after using this for almost 5 days, I am still undecided about this build, hence my late response. It doesn't leak nearly as bad as before, but I do have to prime it quite often. That's where most of the leaking comes from.

If I come up with something better, I will report back.

either bad hw or its user error.
i have 2 stminis, both on rba, no leaks, no dry hits, well almost never, wicking is the key imo.
i only prime when i refill or w/new wick or when im outside and its cold

If you're not lung hitting or chasing clouds, I would use the 1.2 ohm coil or build the RDA above 1 ohm. It's getting hot because there's likely not enough airflow with how you are puffing it.
