So I decided to try rebuilding my coil using .8x.1 ribbon and 3mm silica. The coil actually came out really nice on the first try. When pulsing it the coils glow red from the middle and progress out nice and evenly. Put a couple drops on the coil and it produces good vapor. The only problem I'm having is after filling it up and trying it I'm getting a burnt rubber taste. I'm guessing the insulator is burning but there wasn't a hot leg as far as I could tell. It's producing lots of vapor but the burnt rubber taste is horrible. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

Had the same problem when I used ribbon. Only way to get rid of the rubber taste is to cut off the burnt part. I also soaked everything in vinegar, then alcohol, then boiled. Excessive I know but it did work. I used nail clippers to cut the top of the rubber insulator off on my burnt protanks. No shorting has occured but YMMV.

I changed out the insulator and it solved the problem. After reading through the forum I found that my mistake was dry burning the coil. The coil gets too hot with no liquid and it burns the insulator. Won't be doing that again. Thanks to you all for your help.

That might explain what I was originally doing wrong as well, I did the same as you.
