Kanger Protank 2 with cotton wick: Wow

Just had to share my excitement. I'm one month analog-free as of today, and have been using an Ego C Twist with a Protank 2. After the first two weeks or so, I had worked through most of the Protank's kinks, and was getting a good, consistent vape without too many problems.

At the suggestion of a friend, I replaced my wicks today with cotton. I used the organic 100% cotton makeup remover pads from the local CVS Pharmacy. All I can say is, wow! I feel like this has taken me to a whole new level. Much more flavor, vapor production, and even the draw feels better, although I can't explain why that would be.

Using my favorite juice so far, AVE's C&D, and for the first time I can say that the hit is just as satisfying, if not moreso, than analogs. This makes me think I'll spend a few hours sometime soon and replace the wicks on all my extra coils with cotton.

Now, I just have to figure out what to ask my wife for for Christmas--I've been eying the Provari Mini. :D

Hello,

Are there any disadvantages in using cotton instead of silica? :vapor:

Best regards

Just at Easter your tail starts to look like cotton! No not really make sure if its bleached to boil it and rinse well and dry it. Some folks do some don't. some folks swear by cotton others hate it. Good news its cheap to try. There's pros and cons to about any vaping But the best pro is to be off analogs!

    No you can't

I started to boil my CVS cotton squares for around 5 min improved my flavor.

I found out if you want a more airy draw use slightly smaller Dia. wick want less of airy draw increase the size of Dia on the wick.

I don't use any flavor wicks with the CVS cotton squares.

I also remove the backing(thicker part) on the squares and throw it out after I boil them.

I've only been vaping for like two weeks, and I got me a bunch of different Kanger tanks as a starter kit. I've mainly been using my PT2's with a Vamo v5 (doing 6-7W) and tried to do some minor modifications to the heads only a few days in. No flavor wick, one flavor wick, flipping the stem silicon gasket upside down for more juice to flow through etc ... but not too much happened apart from a few of my attempts flooded the tank. "yay" :glare:

The one thing that really stood out (experienced vapers might go "duh, really?" here ;]) was buying kanthal, cotton, 1.5mm drill bit and a butane burner and making my own cotton wicked micro coils. Even if they still look kinda crappy they do heat up evenly and coils are touching. I'm getting way more flavor (doing ~7W), way more vapor and a much more accentuated snap-crackle-pop effect.

I'm on my fourth day with my first micro coil and haven't switched out the wick yet. No burned hits and still so much nommy flavour ... but I'll guess I'll be chaning the wick tonight, just to keep it that way :D

    tl;dr
    DO IT :2c::p:vapor:

The only downside is due to the upside. Cotton tends to gunk up much quicker (the downside) because it works more efficiently than silica providing better flavor and more vapor (the upside).

Right, which leads to the notable practical downside that cotton wicks need to be replaced more often than silica wicks.

So for most people, I imagine cotton > silica in an at-home context, and silica > cotton everywhere else.
