Kind of Buzzkill on the tip change, I was going to install the plastic first thing 'cause I just don't like the metal tip period and can't afford to go out and buy one, my allowance for this habit is shot with the PRE-ORDER trend and I seem to have been hornswaggled on that deal.

Someone looked up "metal" in a chinese-to-english dictionary, and came up with "iron".
Asking them to specify should (hopefully) get a more accurate description - but from all accounts, it's chromed brass.
I haven't had the chrome wear off yet, so I'm not worried about lead leaching - but they certainly shouldn't be calling it Stainless Steel if it isn't.

I have had two protank minis so far. I broke both of them!!!! The protank 2 is great for clumsy folk like me. I have been vaping it for a week and it is just like the og protank but better!! If i break the glass, i can replace the glass rather than the whole thing! But i did notice that the coils it comes with are junk. I had to rebuild both of them right out of the box.
How do you keep breaking the mini's? I have been thinking about buying a few of them. Just curious if I should just buy the Protank 2's instead.

What's the air flow like on the Protank 2 vs the PT1? I have the first Protank and the air flow is literally the only thing that I don't care for. I feel like I'm holding a milkshake straw and drawing on it in mid-air. Just not my cup of tea.

I got to wondering something. I'm sitting here looking at my PT1 as well as an assortment of plastic drip tips that I have (just standard 510 drip tips). If you look down the center, you can see (at least with mine) a substantial difference in diameter between the PT1 tip as well as the plastic drip tips I have. This got me wondering... if the PT2 is just as airy as the PT1... could I swap the drip tip and live happily ever after with a more Nova-like draw?

EDIT - Well this looks reassuring.

I may call the vape shop tomorrow and see if they have it in stock.

Well, today I called the vape shop and they had the Protank 2 for only 3 bucks more than what I've been finding it online. Add in shipping and we broke even. Not too shabby. I brought along my Protank 1 with a newly installed but broken in head, then swapped it into the Protank 2 once I got to my car. Topped it off with the same flavor juice and had a little test run right there. I really have no complaints with it. Granted, it's still brand new so it's difficult to truly judge yet, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the air flow was dialed back JUST a notch. When I talked with the store owner, he told me he didn't think there was a difference in air draw, so I was semi skeptical on buying it, but figured it was worth a shot even if it was a dead end. I went along with it anyway and fired it up. I definitely notice a difference, but it's not much. In fact, it's just enough to notice. It feels more like an EVOD in my opinion.

At any rate, I'm happy with my purchase so far. We'll see how things pan out as time passes.

I noticed the same thing with the airflow. It's a little tighter on the ProTank 2, which I like. Not as tight as the Vapeonly BCC Mega though.

What are you guys vaping your PT2 at? I'm using a cherry pomagranate liquid, which is relatively thin/light, but if I go anywhere above 3.4v I taste burning within the following 2 or 3 drags.

I find this a little strange because GrimmGreen's review of the PT1 (which I experienced identical results with in regard to the 3.4v comment above) said he was vaping 4.5v @ 2.7 ohm. Yet I'm on 2.7 ohm and, as I said, anything above 3.4v is kind of a bummer.

EDIT - I'm actually growing a little concerned about my PT2. When I had the PT1, no matter which liquid I put in it or how many times I replaced it with a new head, the burnt taste was always apparent at, what felt to me, premature levels of voltage. I just put my carto tank on, 1.6 ohm @ 3.8v, nothing but solid vapor and fantastic taste. I put my Nova on, 2.5 ohm @ 4.0v, same thing - enjoyable taste, decent vape, no burnt taste.

If this keeps going, I might put the PT1 and PT2 on the shelf for a while until I get around to rebuilding the heads. Maybe that will help... then again I rebuilt 2 heads for the PT1 and it was the same deal.

Perhaps my initial regret of already ordering the IBTanked (delivery due tomorrow) is actually a great thing, since the PT2 I rushed ahead and ran up to the vape shop to pick up locally doesn't seem to be wow'ing me like I had hoped.

But anyway, PT2 users, what are you vaping? (liquid, voltage, resistance)

EDIT II - Just took a wick out... so far 2.7 ohm @ 4.0v seems to be better. We'll see how it goes...

This is the exact reason I stopped using the protank. The metallic and burnt taste drove me nuts with no solution. I have since purchased 6 ibtanks and couldn't be happier. The only tank that didn't give me any problems was the puritank. I am sure you will enjoy your ibtank.

Did you by chance experience this with the PT1 and PT2? Or were the issues with the PT1 all you needed to step away? Also, what are you using now instead of the Protank?

I had these issues with the PT1 but decided the PT2 HAS to be better, but so far I'm 24 hours into owning the PT2 and I'm definitely not enthused by it. The Smoktech DCTank is proving to be worlds better. The IBTank I'm sure will be just as good, since I'd be using the same cartos in it. I do however expect the IBTank to not be as slippery with the o-rings holding onto the carto as the Smoktech is. Granted, the Smoktech holds it enough to prevent leaking, but it's quite a bit more slippery. That said, the IBTank also has replaceable o-rings, whereas I've heard of 0 ways to replace the o-rings on the Smoktech, so the future maintenance of it seems rather slim in comparison.

I think what I'll end up doing is using the Smoktech as long as the o-rings don't give me any trouble. I can use the EVOD, which has given me NO trouble at all, for testing liquids (I have to hand it to clearos, they are more convenient when it comes to that since you can clean out the heads a bit easier than cartos when switching flavors), and then use the Smoktech and IBTank as my main gizmos.

I usually have 50/50 juice. 1 wick out and 1.8 ohm heads @ 4.0 volts.

Haven't noticed an issue with burning at those settings for me.

I forgot to edit my post again after the removal of the wick. I was still getting the burned hits. It was a bit better, but I heard enough gurgling to suggest that removing another wick would only introduce a good bit of flooding.

At any rate, I've been through the PT1 and PT2 and probably two dozen heads, including one or two rebuilt heads. All of the heads I bought were purchased weeks apart in batches of 3-5, so if there was some sort of monumental factory issue you'd think the infrequency at which I bought them would yield some degree of success, but unfortunately, all of them had the same story. I can safely say that I have had zero issues with carto tanks, and even a few other clearos (Nova, pending I twirl it frequently, and EVOD have been flawless), so I'll continue to use them. It's just sad to see because I see so many people reporting great success with the Protank(s), but I can't say I'm one of them.

I'm heading your direction quicker than I'd imagined. PT2's are flavor-neutral and darned near perfect right up the point where the coils go bad. No warning, just burnt and beyond recovering.

There's significant variability in the resistance of the coils, even within the same foil pack. I'm always checking their ohm reading on my ProVari, coil-to-coil, tank-to-tank. Some go higher with use, but more often they drop like a rock within a tank's worth of vaping. A 2.9 to 1.8 drop is the worst I've seen.

I haven't noticed the ohm dropping like that, but my PT2 was pretty much perfect for the first tank, maybe tank and a half. After that I just can't get the thing to recover unless I run the voltage super low. I read a lot of great reviews about the Protanks, so I keep thinking I am doing something wrong and continually revisit them, but so far I haven't had any luck at all. Glad to know I'm not alone!
