Just bought a Protank yesterday. After loading it up and priming it with a few draws I started to have an oily or synthetic taste. So I let it sit over night thinking it just needs to soak in to the wicks. No luck. Seems like a lubricant flavor. I am using 100% VG. Just getting an all around bad flavor and a worst after taste. I have bin using T3's since I started vaping and never had a problem. Thought I would get even better flavor with the protank but no such luck. Its loaded with Boba's Bounty 24mg which is a great flavor and works well with my T3's. Is there a good way to clean the Protank? Heard of boiling or using grain alcohol. Just dont want to damage it. Or could it be the coil? Heard of re wicking, I'm just not ready to try something like that. Any help would be much appreciated.

You _are_ getting better flavour. Better VG flavour that is. Are you able to try a lesser VG mix, or do you run 100%VG because you have problems with PG? I don't run over 30% VG because of the oily VG taste it gives. 30% vapes great though.

I guess there are more factors involved. I do have problems with PG. Gives me a bad feeling in my throat and chest. I have a local shop near by and make me custom VG flavors. Boba's is one of my favorites so I used that first thinking I couldn't go wrong. I will have to do more flavor testing on my part. Thanks for the input. Might have to rule out the device?

So did you clean it out when you first unwrapped it? or did you just fill and vape?

I made that mistake when I got my iclear30's and it tasted like I was vaping a dirty boot.

I cleaned the thing out 2x's - filled her back up and its all good now.

The first protank I got was used by my friend already... have 2 more in the mail right now so Monday I will be curious to see how they perform right out of the package.

Probably right. It did have a weird feel to it empty and the packing foam isn't the best. The foam looked like it was breaking down quickly over time. My own fault for not cleaning a product from china before use. I was to excited.

Lol I was same exact same way. I will be the same way on Monday even though I've already used it, a brand new one will still make me just as excited.

Not necessarily, clean it thorougly as has been suggested. It _could_ be a contaminant, but that would be a bad show if it were the case. Let the coils wear in for a ml or two and then re-evaluate the flavour. You might find it settles down once the coil has a few miles on it. You're obviously used to vaping 100% VG so give it a bit more of chance.

Obviously I am very new at this. Thanks everybody for all your help. Hope this helps others. I will keep vaping till its empty. Hope that breaks in the coil.

Bobas Bounty is very high VG.....You will need to remove at least one strand of extra wick they (kanger workers) lay on top of the coiled wick. It sounds to me like you never rinsed the tank prior to use (distilled water is best) and you used super thick juice in it (which will not wick well without removing a small piece, a strand, of extra silica laid on top of the coil). You pull the post out to do this.

I am having opposite happening. Never rinsed before using for first time and loved the flavor (probably even better if I would of rinsed first). Now after three days... the flavor not tasting as good. And keep going back to my Smoktech carto on Vision Spinner. Wondering if all my changing of flavors has finally been too much and I need to do a good rinse of tank and put in a replacement head. Any suggestions? I am a 3 1/2 week newbie...

It depends on the juice. I use GoodeJuice NETs and they tend to destroy the tanks after a round or two. Have to clean it daily or it will clog up quick. Take it apart to the coil and rinse out the wicks and coil then give it a dry burn. I get use out of one head for about a week with juices that really like to clog things up, and more on other juices that are a bit more friendly. I wouldn't toss the head yet, just clean and dry burn. I have 10 unopened heads, with three done for heads sitting around. Will be getting into doing a rebuild of them myself soon enough.

The coil is probably clogged up. If the juice starts to go dark and gets a funky taste to it, it's a sure sign - the junk is backwashing in the tank. The best thing to do is dump the juice and change the head out. While thicker darker juices clog a head more quickly, some heads just seem to do much better than others with the same juice. Some I've had last only three days, other have lasted 2 weeks.

You can then inspect the coil and wick and see what is going on. Most likely you'll find it is encrusted in blackened burnt juice. I boil all the heads to remove all traces of juice, air dry them, then dry burn them, then boil them to get rid of all traces of ash and burnt flavour. Usually this returns them to as-new condition. I try to do them in small batches.

I actually just did a dry burn on mine and was noticing when I was topping of my juice that the juice inside the tank was much darker then the the juice in the bottle. I know some juices tend to change color from the heat, it kind of looked like a half and half mixture for a few minutes until it mixed with eachother. Not sure if it's regular or the gunk, how to tell?

I've taken to cleaning any new atomizer I get. I picked up an EVOD today and that is the first thing I did. Hot water several times and made sure to blow out the head each time.

Gave it a good pat down with a paper towel and filled it up. Perfection!

What is a dry burn? When you say, wash the atomizer head... so you wash the entire thingy including the wicks? Please excuse my dumb questions... but I am not mechanical at all... Once I clean a replacement head... and let it dry... do I need to be concerned on how I store it? Since I want to keep vaping tonight and want to use protank. Thinking I will rinse tank under hot water and put a new replacement head in... let the used one dry over nite and it will be ready for next use. I only use 100% VG and darker flavors... Kona Coffee Milkshake and Amaretto and Georgia Gold (tobacco with peach) And those are the flavors been switching last three days in tank. After I wash... I will use only Georgia Peach until my next order comes in. Does any of this sound like a good plan?

Dry burning is pushing the button without any juice in the tank.

You need to pull the air tube off the coil assembly and pull out the flavor wicks, which are sitting loose on top of the coil, so you can see the actual coil. Pulse it on for a few seconds, then off for a few. Repeat. When it glows red (it should also stop smoking) it's clean. Put the flavor wicks back on (for thick juice like Boba's Bounty, leave off one flavor wick), push the air tube back onto the coil assembly, re-assemble the protank. Fill with juice and vape.

I wash the tube and coil (warm/hot running water) then swish it around in a small bowl of vodka. Then dry as best I can (little water/vodka won't hurt). Dry burning will get the water out of the wick. Put it back together, fill with juice, let it sit for a few minutes. Vape. If I've left out anything, someone will correct me.
