So my wife and I got our new Mini 3's recently, which came with what I am assuming are the old-style wicked coils. I also bought a pack of new coils, and discovered them to be the "upgraded wickless" design. After heavily vaping on the new tank for about 3 weeks, I decided to put in one of the new coils.

I remember being totally blown away with the vapor production when I used the original coil. But the vapor production with the newer style, while still good, seems to be less.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Yeah, I'm beginning to hear grumblings from other users that the newer coils aren't nearly as good. In other words, correctamundo, Katmar. "Upgraded" does not always mean "better".

What a bummer! My wife and I really love the Mini 3 tank! But I'm starting to wonder if I need to shop for another dual coil tank that is 510/pen-style friendly.

My Mini Protank 3s came with coils that didn't have protruding wicks, I thought these were called the "enclosed wick" design but I'm guessing these are what you mean by the wickless coils. I bought some replacement coils that have the protruding wicks, they were about $2 a pack cheaper. I didn't have a problem with the enclosed coils but I like the ones with the protruding wicks better. I'm vaping some all VG juice and was having dry hits, it helped to pull a little bit of the fiber out of the wicks to get it to vape better, and I couldn't have done that with the enclosed coils.

So I'm thinking I'm going to stick with the tanks I've got and just buy the wicked coils.

I got quite a few bad coils when I was using the old style. Some would last and last other would pop within a few hours some right away. Have not had one bad out of the box with the enclosed wicks.

Something many do not know, and you wouldn't without a mod with an ohm checker or own a separate ohm checker ( I have both, go figure :) ) is that the the Kanger coils can be all over the place in regards to the ohm rating, both low and high.

My Protank minis came with exposed wick 1.5 ohm coils. If you replaced with a different ohm coil you will get a much different vape. Those 1.5's really come alive fast.

I just got a pack of the new enclosed-wick coils for my mini protank 3 and personally I'm WAY happier with them than the old ones. I don't notice much difference in vapor production, but I DO notice a tighter seal. I used to have to mess with the silicone "cap" over the wicks all the time. One day it would be fine, the next day my tank would be gurgling. So far I don't have that problem with the newer style coil and I can actually feel the seal sort of "locking" when I put the tank back together after cleaning or filling. Then again, I JUST put the first one in, so we'll see whether it stays consistent!

Well...I take it back about the tight seal on the newer coils. A couple days I started getting leaks down into my battery. Liquid up the chimney. Spurts of liquid in my mouth. Had to blow the darn thing out every few hits. I thought maybe I got a dud, so I threw in a new coil and got the same problem, but right away this time.

If anyone else is having this issue I think I MAY have found a fix. The new "enclosed wick" heads have a different silicone piece on top. It's just a simple washer. I traded that out for the more cup-shaped one from one of the old coils and - just like that - no problems. I don't know whether it's making a tighter seal or whether the fact that it partially covers one set on intake holes is making the difference. But so far, so good. Next time I think I'll go back to the kind with the protruding wicks.

I've been having nothing but issues with getting my protank 3 to work right on my new Vamo v6. I had been really looking forward to trying some higher wattage vaping (which these should be able to handle) and could not figure out why it wasn't working properly (constant dry hits, burned out 3 atomizers in a week at low wattages) so I went back to my puny vv ego stick and the same old meh vapor production. I had been using the new style dual coils but today I was digging through my box o' vape gear and found one of the older style dual coils. Well, I poppped that bad boy in and I've been getting some sweet Vapes all day! No more dry hits. I think the higher wattage needs that increased juice flow.

Now to find more.......
