How long before I need to change the coil and how will I know when that time comes? Also can the coils be cleaned and/or dry burned to get the built up gunk off? Or would it be better just to replace them when the time comes?
It will start to tase diffrent/burnt when it needs to be cleaned or replaced. 3-6 days depending on how you vape. I like to rinse mine every 3 tanks or so. yes you can clean (vodka soak) and dry burn, but i take the post off and the extra wick out before a dry burn. Hope this helps you.
Murphy did provide you with a good road map for the ProTank. I soak in distilled water, but I know there are a lot of folks out there who soak in Vodka. I find that I have to replace about every month or six weeks, depending. Another way to know that your coil is going bad, in addition to when there is a bad taste, is when there is no taste at all. If the flavor of your juice is absent, the coil may also be dying out.

I have a bunch on hand and change them quite frequently with putting the used ones (after 2-3 tank's worth or when switching to a new flavor) in a little tub of vodka or distilled water or distilled vinegar. After collecting quite a few dirty heads, I have a cleaning session where I pull off the post like what's mentioned above ^^^^ and replace the flavor wick (1mm silica or ekowool) as needed. Sometimes, that flavor wick can get be pretty gunked up, soaked/stained beyond salvage, or caked with burnt juice. Then, the clean ones go back into rotation.
