Hey, got a question (or two)...

I have the original protank (glue free update I believe) and I constantly have issues with burning taste, getting my throat and nose burnt like a b*tch so I was watching a vid that PB made. He made a suggestion to remove one or two of the wicks in the head if you were having issues with burning. I did that, it doesn't really help that much (a bit but not that much) so I decided to try another thing by removing the rubber "condom" that sit over top of the wick and it seems to vape much better. Is there a reason the rubber piece is there besides maybe keeping the wick in place or is it ok to use the tank without the rubber piece over the wick?

I can't understand why I have so many issues getting my throat burnt using these tanks, I never have this issue using cartomizers.

Thanks

Hi

Need more info:

Where'd ya get 'em? There seems to be some grousing on the board about FT clone coils being crappy.

What resistance are they and what voltage are you running them at? Perhaps just running them too hot.

That silicone cap is important. That thing seals the base of the larger vent tube that attaches to the tip. It will work without it - just don't dare lay the thing on it's side.

You know, oddly enough I just turned down the voltage to 3 volts and the problem goes away and I still get plenty of vapor. But I shouldn't have to turn down voltage on a 2.5ohm atty to 3 volts to use it lol, you should be able to go up to the mid 5's in volt world without any problem on 2.5ohm atty's, I've done it for 2 years and never had any issues until these things. Very interesting...

1) Check the resistance of your coil with a meter/device?
2) Check the voltage of your pv with a multimeter.

I'm guessing it's your pv that's wonky, i.e the output voltage is incorrect. Unless by "burning of the throat", you mean dry hit. Then I would suggest priming it before firing. Dry suck gently on it a couple of times until you can taste the flavour of your juice. Then fire away.

If you see lots of bubbles rising from your juice while dry sucking, and you don't get flooding issues, it definitely points to poor wicking. Adjust the position of the flavour wicks or remove one. But be warned that this may lead to gurgling/flooding. You just have to play around with the number/size of the flavour wicks depending on the vg/pg of your juice. You can also use cotton as flavour wicks.

That being said, I'm not a fan of the protank. Very very muted flavour and throat hit for me. But others love it.

True that we "should" be able to go mid-5's. But...
I just started using a PT2 yesterday, on a Zmax which I have always sent for Watts. With my carto tanks I always ran 9w. The PT2 at 9w burnt bad. So I bumped it down to and finally settle in that 7w was max I could go without burning. After reading your post, I switched my Zmax to display Volts, and proceeded to bump it up to 5v- horrible burnt taste. A few tests I finally determined that 4v is the highest I can go without it burning.

Not real happy with this lower voltage/wattage vape. Probably gonna give up on the PT2 and test out the Raven.
