I didn't see a thread devoted to this specific topic, but I thought It would be fun to see what others have done with rebuilds on the OCC heads for the Kanger Sub tanks. I think we all have a great opportunity to learn from each other on this.

So what are you waiting for? Post those OCC re-wicks and rebuilds!!!

I have personally had good success with re-wicks using a roughly 5mm wide strip of Japanese organic cotton (Koh Gen Do). Too much cotton and you'll choke the coil from wicking properly, too little and it'll flood, gurgle, and spit.

I have also rebuilt several OCC coils with 5-6 wraps of 24-26g Kanthal around a 2-3 mm bit with resistance ranging from 0.5 to 0.8 ohms.

In my opinion the OCC coils are much much easier to rebuild than those found on the Atlantis, and I also feel I get better flavors from my Kanger subtank mini than on either of my 2 Atlantis tanks.

So, what are you using to re-wick and rebuild your OCC coils... and why? Photos are nice too!

I'll do a new build in a day or two and post a few pics then.

I re-built my OCC head the other day.

I used 26 gauge kanthal 5/6 wraps evenly spaced around a 3mm drill bit and wicked with Muji japanese cotton (same as KGD) about a 6mm wide, removed the outer bits so it was just the fluffy cotton and re-wicked. Once I cut the tails of the wick I pushed them back in to the OCC head nice and gently so they stayed fluffy.

It came out a 0.9 ohms and is working well, I had to turn the wattage up a little compared to the stock 0.5ohm but I guess that is because mine was 0.9ohms but flavour is great, no dry hits. getting some nice snap, crackle and pop sounds which I like.

Loving the subtank mini on my istick 30w

Were you rebuilding from the stock 0.5 ohm OCC coils or the stock 1.2 ohm OCCs?

I realize that your rebuild came out to 0.9 ohms.

I did almost the same, 26g 5wraps 2.5mmID came out to .73. I have been using Carolina Blend organic cotton I got recently from cottonman.com. I also push the excess cotton back into the coil, looks much like the stock build. At 23 watts using the 2 holes airflow in the mini the vape is great.

Were you rebuilding from the stock 0.5 ohm OCC coils or the stock 1.2 ohm OCCs?

I don't think it matters, once you remove the stock coil the old resistance is irrelevant.

However, leekeylee said:

Which is going against ohms law... if his resistance went up, he should be turning the wattage down, not up! I didn't catch the fact that he did say from the .5 stock occ's!

I have been doing these heads, it takes some practice. I did this one 26 gauge 8 wraps 2.5 mm I.D. Came out about 1.1 ohms. Vape at around 17.5 watts.
