kanger subtank mini nasty taste

hi all!

so, to start out, im new to the tank game.
been using drippers for the past year about, just being an all day vaper it got kind of annoying to drip every 10 mins....

any constructive criticism would be more then welcomed as I am out of my element here.

I recently ordered and received a new kanger mini subtank over the weeked, and ya know after the oohs and aahhs and youtube videos, I filled her up with some acai smoothie juice and (yes I put a few drops on my 1.2 ohm occ coil) began to vape after letting it sit for a few mins.

first thoughts: wow , awesome taste, great cloud output, more then I was expecting.

give it an hour or so after ive sucked up a good half of the juice, began to get a nasty taste.
I wouldn't call it burnt, just kinda nasty

so, emptied out what was still in there, and replaced with new juice, just thinking I was vaping too hard and I burned some juice? (like I said, new to tanks, so just trying to troubleshoot)

like last time, great taste at first, not as good as when I FIRST filled it, but still okay,
then the taste comes back, not even halfway through this time.

okay vape community, pls help me on this. I love this tank, hope I didn't cause any permanent damage.

OH, im sure this is worth noting (any "you dumbass" comments will be duly noted) I have my tank on a manhattan mod clone, so no regulating my watts,
ordered an istick yesterday

I just got one yesterday and it tastes bad. I cleaned it but not good enough. ahh the great taste of machine oil. usually it's most pronounced in the base where the threads and air channels are so I need to do another cleaning with dawn. this time I'll use a pipe cleaner and get all the nooks and crannies that I should have the first time. I was
surprised however, a lot of the i taste was in the drip tip. I have no doubt it will be just fine after the next cleaning.

obtw, if you have polarized sun glasses , it will make the oil visible as a rainbow.

There is an issue with the material used to make the insulators on some subtank minis. In the beginning they used a certain material where there were these nasty taste issues. They then started making the insulators out of peek.

It seems you may have one of the first variations (online vendors are going to still sell them until their stock runs out surely and get more from kanger). The way you can tell for sure is the older, nasty insulators look off-white/white color. Where the newer ones made out of peek are clear.

yeah read that on another thread, definitely have the off white colored insulators
id hate to have to wait even LONGER to vape on this damn thing, so hopefully my shop will have some good ones?
doubtful but thankyou anyways

I doubt your shop will have replacements as Kanger is making people contact them to get replacements. Below is some info from a reddit post where the poster was given directions by Kanger to get new insulators.

"If you are located in USA, Pls contact with KangerTech US Service Center 11555 Medlock Bridge Rd, Unit 100, Johns Creek, GA 30097 Phone: 1-888-799-1988 US Service contact: service@kangertechus.com If you are not in USA, pls contact with KangerTech China Headquarters China contact & Quality feedback: service@szkanger.com"

dammit.....

oh how I wish I wasn't at work so I could go and make sure it is the insulator....

I know that feeling, wanting to fix/figure something out but not being able to sucks, especially with a new toy! When you get home just look into the insulator thing, do some google searches and see if that's your problem. Maybe it's not, maybe it is just machine oil. I do know the insulators have been an issue for some though and it seems like it's what might be the culprit in your case.

Good luck, hopefully you can get it squared away sooner rather than later so you can enjoy your new tank!

There is no problem with using the 1.2 ohm coil with your subtank mini...I have and use both the .5 and the 1.2, they are very similar in how they vape/taste, if you use the appropriate wattage for each coil and clean the tanks. I have 4 subtank mini's and when I got the first one I just rinsed it out with hot water, and got a funky taste...lesson learned, washed it and the other three out with hot water and dish soap...no more funky taste. I suggest trying about 18 watts on the 1.2 and about 22 watts on the .5 coil.

When using tanks or sub-ohm tanks with pre-made coils it's best and recommended to use a vv/vw to dial in your preferred vape. I use my BCV 29 with an orchid at .68, but I mainly use my VS with it.

You made the right choice by picking up a VV/VW for your mini. Just clean out your tank as others have suggested and hopefully you didn't burn the coil head.
