I recently picked up a subtank mini and it's been great but it's reallyyyy hot, even at only 20 watts the vapor is really hot, Im using the rta section and i put on the pre-wrapped coil it comes with and its a 0.6 ohm coil and I didn't choke it with cotton and I have the airflow all the way open and its still hot but I like a cooler vape, also its not putting out nearly as much vapor as I see people's on youtube do. Any suggestions/coil builds to fix this?

Try just a standard 5 wrap no contact dual coil set up something like this 3.jpg that should give you a fairly cool vape That build is .55 with 28 guage. Or possibly a single coil If your using micro coils they make hotter vapor than no contact coils More surface area to heat the vapor.

Vapor always looks better on camera than it does from a first person perspective. I notice this while vaping and watching my video feed on Skype. Just sitting in my office blowing vapor at the white walls, it's a lot less visually stunning. Don't sweat it....you see people blowing apparently impressive clouds of vapor on YouTube because that's what they want you to see.

The Subtank mini is a hotter vape, particularly if you're used to a Kayfun. I think it's because it's less "meaty" than a Kayfun. Less material = faster heat transfer, especially up that very thin, wide drip tip. Occasionally, the drip tip on mine gets hot enough to be uncomfortable. Swapping with a Kayfun drip tip seems to help, or you could get yourself a longer drip tip. That should cool the vapor down a bit more for you too.

Had my mini a week and I'm already used to the hotter vape, though I can't say I favor it. I'm struggling more with getting good mouth to lungs...

I second jambi on vapor on video. I can make a little ego twist "chuck vapor" with angles and lighting on camera.

The subtank mini is a little hotter vape I noticed even wide open. I just got used to it after a couple days and haven't thought much about it. You could try to build a higher ohm coil, above 1.0 ohms and see if that helps. I have mine as twisted 28g kanthal 0.8 ohms and absolutely love it.

What type of e-Lquids are you using? And what type of Resistance Wire do you normally build with?

Lung hitting, full air open 0.5 ohm coil at 27w doesn't get hot at all, slightly warm vape yes, if you try mouth to lung on a smaller airflow with a slower draw, that's when the heat becomes a problem, these tanks were never designed for that..

1: 20 watts can certainly be hot; depends on the coil.
5 watts was pretty normal when I started vaping in 2013, and the typical regulated mods at the time only went up to 15 watts; the vastly popular mvp2 only went up to 11 watts.
So don't be all surprised if 20 watts is really hot.

2: You made no mention of wire gauge.
Thicker wire needs more power to get hot.

I agree the tip that comes with the subtank mini is a bit like a cooling tower. I switched mine straight away with a much narrower longer tip. And i'm still going to get a 60mm tip for it.

Best way to vape with the subtank for me is not sealing my lips round the tip. It means you can draw cold environmental air whilst drawing on the device.
