The subtank mini certainly looks promising. I have questions.

Dose the subtank work well as a traditional rba in the 2+ Ohm range? Can the draw be restricted from wide open? Does a traditional, non-wide bore drip tip fit it okay? Is there enough room under the rda cap for knurled nuts?

Is there anything that keeps subtank mini from being used as a traditional, non-sub rba?

Are there other brand similar RTAs that might be more useful as a non-sub RBA?

I appreciate that separate RBA decks are available separately for purchase.

I gotta say, in my opinion the subtank is best utilized with the open draw and lung inhales. The highest OCC coils are 1.2 and now I think 1.5? I believe that's for a reason. The RBA section is incredibly finicky. I have never had luck with the 50/50 juice I use, it's spitting galore. The authentic kayfun lite is a little more expensive, I think like $70ish, but don't quote me on that. Everyone seems to love them and they are more suited for higher ohm builds. This is just my opinion and if anyone can back this information you'll know its the real deal. People correct me if I'm wrong here.

I have three of them, which I use with the RBA deck, 50/50 juice, and only mouth to lung hits :) I build mine like the Kayfun around 1.2, and I find them fast and easy to build using 26 gauge kanthal.
I've had great success building 1.4Ω twisted 30 gauge, 2.5 mm inside dia coils. On the Subtank mini RBA at 17-22 watts/4.9 - 5.5 v range with 70vg- 30pg e-liquid. Brings it right to the sweet spot , for me anyway.

i started vaping on protank II and then kayfun lites. after getting my first subtank i have not touched the other tanks because i like the better airflow so much. i find the airflow way too restrictive now that i tried the subtank. you can do mouth to lung hits if you use the smallest airhole ajustment. not sure if you have enough room for knurled screws but the phillips head screws work just fine. i think if you try a subtank you will like it. an added plus is not one single leak in the 3 subtanks i have now. i also have a fourth on the way. i ordered the black subox kit with the new improved RBA head. :toast:

Subtank works fine at 2+ ohm range with a build made at that resistance, but the thing is if you want to use a mod that won't fire under 2 ohms, it likely also won't produce enough power to get the most out of the Subtank. Need at least 20 watt and really 30 watt max to make the Subtank worthwhile.

Just my opinion, but I think the Subtank is awesome for both high watt vaping and also for tootle puffing. I totally enjoy high watt vaping but it is not what I like all day. My ADV switched from a Provari & Russian 91 to a Subtank+ with a .5 ohm coil which I run at 12-15 watts using the medium airflow on the Subtank. Awesome flavor and vapor production without the high watt intensity. I guess I am saying you don't have to run high watts if you enjoy a less intense vape. The Subtank is a good all arounder in my experience.

One other big plus with the Subtank is if you are getting into TC builds with Nickel or Titanium. The Subtank is the only tank (out of many) that is electrically stable from the get go without any fiddling around. I was about to throw out my Vaporshark rDNA40 until I got a subtank.....It was basically a vaping epiphany when I finally had a tank that was 100% electrically stable (aka stable resistance.)

I am a bit concerned that Kanger is taking a step backwards with their new Sutbtank Mini's that I have purchased a few extras of the current design to keep around just in case. Like 'em that much!

... Is there enough room under the RDA cap for knurled nuts?

...

I tried replacing the Phillips Head Screws with Allen Head Cap Screws on mine. No Go. There Wasn't enough room to screws the RBA Chimney Cover down.

So Knurled Nuts on a threaded post Shouldn't work.

I have the Kayfun V4's and Kayfun lites, Lemo Drop's and Lemo II's and they are seldom used anymore because I just love the subtank too much to put it down. I am on tank #20 for the original supplied coil and it is still performing flawlessly so I cant vouch for the RBA deck yet.
One thing I can point out is I always been a mouth to lung'er but with the Kanger Subtank mini lung hits are so natural that its now the only way I use it. I can turn the airflow down and do mouth to lungs but its so enjoyable the way I have it set up I dont see a reason why. I keep the main air hole half way open and that is perfect for me. In comparrison with the Kayfun lites and V4, they pale seriously and I really liked them before I got the Kanger. The Lemo is comparable. Not quiet as good but I find myself wanting to lung hit it now and the flavor is almost as good. I do not think you will be disappointed in a Kanger subtank mini if you picked one up.

I think it's terrible for mouth to lung hits. Even on the smallest airflow setting it's still too airy. It's definately designed for direct lung hits.

That's going to depend on the user. I am a MTL vaper, and find the smallest setting on the ST Mini to be to restrictive.

To dial in the airflow even more, use the wide open slots and then partially close it to taste.

As for the RBA section, I think builds in the OP's range will work just fine, but the wicking on the original ST Mini deck can be finicky as mentioned. The key is to keep the liquid channels exposed, and with thinner liquids (50/50's) it should work just fine.

The RBA section for the new version of the Subtank Mini included with the "Subox" looks more promising. I'm hoping they'll make that available separately as an upgrade for those of us that already purchased the OG Mini.
