Kanger T3

I have the Kanger T3 tanks with the replaceable base, 808 version (Smokeless Image | The Best Electronic Cigarette) for my Volt X2.

The bases are costing me a fortune. Comparatively; I can stretch a full set to 6-8 weeks, but they're pretty rangy-tasting toward the end of that period. And at this point, what with DIY, they're the most expensive remaining component.

I'd like to rebuild them. Which I'm given to understand I can do with Kanthal A-1 wire, wicks (it looks like 3 mm?), some patience, and my trusty old meter that does ohm measurements quite well. I'll be looking to rebuild them in the same range as they were, or about 2.5 ohms +/- 0.1 ohms. I like that range very well, so there's no low or sub-ohm issues going on here.

I may be missing it, but is there a good general post on rebuilding? I've watched You Tube videos and they explain it well, but I wanted the particulars of the challenges I'll face learning this.

If not, here are my questions:

* What gauge wire? It looks like it should be 30 or 32, given the higher resistance needed, but I could be off on that. One challenge is that my vision is terrible, but I do have large, lit magnifying glasses for small work. What length of wire and number of wraps will I be shooting for initially (understanding that I'll be adjusting that as per my meter readings).

* What size wick? At a guess, 2 or 3 mm looks right, but I'm not sure which to choose.

Any commentary--including "you're obviously too dumb to deal with this"--will be appreciated. Well, maybe not appreciated if it uses the word "dumb," but at least considered... :)

Thanks!

T3 heads are a bit of a challenge to rebuild since the connector is recessed in the cap. Getting the rubber gasket back in can drive one nuts!

One option is to get a T3S adapter, which will allow you to use T3S heads in a T3. The T3S heads are much easier to work with since everything is exposed.

The other advantage is that the T3S heads are much less expensive than the T3 heads.

Link for the adapter is: http://www.vaporbeast.com/Kanger-T3S-Base-Black-Chrome-p/67-0215-038.htm?CartID=2

Link for the T3S heads: http://www.vaporbeast.com/Kanger-T3S-Replacement-Coils-5-Pack-p/64-0197-000.htm?1=1&CartID=1

Note that while the T3S heads look nearly identical to the Protank/Evod heads, there’s a small difference – the Protank/Evod heads have a slightly larger flange which does not allow for as good of a seal at the base. If you go the T3S adapter route, it would be best to stick with T3S heads to avoid leaking.

In terms of rebuilding, my favorite build is to use 28 or 30 gauge in a micro coil with cotton. But if you want to stick with silica, I find 2mm to work well in terms of size. I'd suggest 30 gauge for your target resistance range.
