Didn't you test the coil to see the glorious glow? Dunno about the metallic taste. Try removing the tank and the post and the extra wicks to get a visual on the coil, then fire it. Pulse it a bit, that should oxidize it. Hopefully you'll get rid of the metallic taste.

i fired it a cpl times when i rebuilt it....all 5 wire lines burned beautifully and in unicen.....it went away after about 10-15 puffs and is now hitting better than new
