Hey everyone,

I have a quick question about my RBA for the subtank mini, I have rebuilt it several times with 24g, 26g kanthal, and different inner coil diameters, currently running .5 ohm 24g with 2.5 mm inner diameter coil, I use the coil master kit, but I am still not getting the vape quality I use to get with the prebuilt OCC heads. I know it should be close to the same if not better than the OCC plus WAY cheaper.
I have abused steam engine to every end of the spectrum to try and figure this out as well as YouTube and my local vape shop. I have a modified original RBA, I machined juice holes in the sides like the V2 RBA for my subtank, so the juice is getting there but it just isn't what I think it should be for a sub ohm tank, vapor production is like an old school cig. I have my airflow wide open and my wicking is top notch, says my local vape shop. I have my subtank mini on an original KBOX so my wattage choices are limited but I have tried it on my eVic VT and still the same results.
I need help now because I don't want to flush money down the drain, $5 a OCC and they only last between 4 - 7 days not to mention the $35 for the tank, I love my Subtank mini! Please don't let me waste my money if you can help me.

Thanks,

@coldwind I custom machined my juice holes larger then the V2 since I was having juice flow issues but now it does feel like the airflow is more restricted then the OCC coils. I only use my Subtank at work and when I leave the house so I think I can get the OCC coils to last 2 weeks but $10 a month on OCC coils not including juice is a lot more then $1 or so rebuilding, I am trying to vape for almost nothing after initial investment of course :) Hopefully someone has some advice for me about that.

@Cgates88 60/40 and 70/30 vg/pg like I said I don't have juice flow issues and I use the same juice I used in my OCC coils. I agree, way to expensive for OCC coils. Do you space out your coil? I use coil master so I can't space them out. I can't put more then 20 watts on a .5 ohm 24g kanthal coil.

I build on the screwdriver that came with my kit. I push it together as much as I can and then when I put it on I burn it and squeeze it so it's as close together as possible. I have 26g and wrap at around .4 to .5. I can run about 30 on those, any higher and it burns.

@Cgates88 I have not used the screw driver that came with the kit because my hands shake pretty bad so the only way I can get good coils is by using my coil master. I am wondering if I need to space out my coil more? Right now I can't use over 20 watts on my .5 ohm 24g build because it burns the juice something fierce.

@Romano Cheese I don't believe I have any old OCC coils laying around. I have used both the new and old OCC coils in my tank. I had thought of rebuilding them but it just looked way to time consuming and kind of a pain instead of just taking a minute to wrap a coil and put it in my RBA.

I just rebuilt it and did 4 wraps of 26g and am getting .4 ohm with a 2 mm inner diameter. It is doing better now then before, running it at 25 watts. thanks.
You said it's doing better but not that is doing great. I can't understand if you still think that something is wrong with the deck. You could still try:
  1. Tight the post screws
  2. Tight the central positive screw really hard (this one might be tricky)
  3. Adjust your coil
  4. Find out if the wire you use is good quality (if not, flavor and vapor will never meet your senses)
