Basically you have 3 parameters for tweaking the resulting microcoil resistance: diameter of the wire, diameter of the thing you wrap your coil on (nail, drill bit, screwdriver, ...) and finally number of wire wraps.

Most people make microcoils by wrapping no more than 10 wraps around a drill bit of 1.5mm (slightly less than1/16) diameter, so they use different diameters of wire depending on what resistance is desired.

Personally I find Kanthal 30g (.25mm) to be a flexible middle ground option, using it as is for relatively higher resistance or by twisting two wires tightly together when I want to achieve lower ohms (resistance cut in half by the two wires in parallel).
