Kanthal ribbon question.

I have been wanting to order kanthal ribbon wire off eBay but not sure what to buy. It is not gauge like regular round wire. I saw that it is ohm by the foot. Example one was 6.40 ohm per foot and another was 3.133 ohm per foot. Which one is best to buy. Or do you have a good vendor to order from. It is a little more expensive that regular wire but heard great things about it.

AWG resistance wire also has ohms / length, and in your examples you would need 4" of coil to get 2ohms with the 6.40 and about 8" of the 3.133. The 6.40 sounds much more reasonable, something close to 29G.

I have this on the side but never gotten around to testing it yet. 30awg non ribbon is working out pretty good for me right now

Yes ribbon is different...

Its flat sided, so its generally measured like .6mm x .1mm and has an ohms per foot rating to the wire equivalent.

The above would be about the same as 30ga for example.
