I've recently taken my journey into rebuilding my kanger coils.,.... boy is it a head ache....
So I bought kanthal from Temco, which i've been told is one of the best places to get kanthal, and im having an issue.
I keep getting a smell when I light the wire for a test run... I lit the kanthal red hott before I built with it.... what do I do here? just keep burning it till it goes away?

also, I have a big hot spot... most of the heat is being focused towards the middle (~8 wraps only about half, starting from the middle out, glows red when I fire up my battery)

Im having a hard time ironing out these hot spots. any ideas:?

thanks

You should be pulsing the power to heat the coil, not letting it just go full blast. The oily smell is hopefully an oily coating on the wire. If the coils are heating from the inside out that is what you want. If one coil is glowing bright while the others or not you need to get a pair of tweezers and adjust them (or squeeze them together of you are making a contact coil).
