Kanthal Tasting oily

I just built a coil and burned it for a while to get the oily taste off of it. I loaded up my cotton and put juice on it and it taste horrible like it has a bunch of oil residue on it. I put juice on it and have been vaping it for a while, and it still taste like there is residue on it. I can not even taste the juice over the residue . Any suggestions or recommendations?

This is the primary reason why I anneal my wire before making the coil. Sure, most will say you can just dry burn before wicking, but nothing beats a good torching before wrapping.

I always wipe the wire with an alcohol swab before wrapping a coil.

Is this a new atomizer you are using?

The taste could be coming from the atomizer. At the very least I clean a new atomizer in hot soapy (dish) water. Sometimes you might need more than just a hot soapy soak to remove machine oil.

Always preheat the wire or the coil to burn off the machine oil, and oils from your fingers.

Some wire sellers don't clean off the wire very well before put it on new spools. Always check for oil first! And clean those new attiys as well. Even if you can't smell oil, there is probably still residue there.

If you run the wire through thumb and index finger a few times you will see a black line or mark from the dirty oil appear, some wire i have that i know is dirty i will cut a long length and rub some washing up liquid along it then give it a good rub wash under a hot tap.

I've also had a oily taste from some rda's/rta's even after washing until i started taking the post screws out as well, i tend to drip a drop of washing liquid into the post holes before rinsing with lots of hot water, wash liquid will also leave a funky taste if you don't rinse it all off.
Don't go dropping your post screw or grubs down the sink hole if you take them out..

Torching or annealing Kanthal takes some of the springiness out of the wire making it easier to wrap as well as burning of contaminants. Can be done with a lighter (in a pinch) until you get a torch.

I pickup up one these at a C-store for under. $5.
