No clue unless perhaps you've been using one particular cotton and you have a slight sensitivity to something in it.
I switched to rayon almost a year ago. I give it about 10 seconds of firing time in a tank (a couple of short bursts) to get rid of some break-in of odd flavor that many have noted with rayon, and then it's good to go.
The only thing I watch out for is I do have a slight sensitivity to very high VG mixes, but that has nothing to do with the wicking.

I saw that! I thought it was funny how quickly that picture got deleted though. And sadly no, I don't have an answer to your question however, if I vape anything over 65%VG, I have to get my inhaler. I inadvertently vaped a 70% VG liquid one night that sent me to the ER for a breathing treatment.
Thanks guys. Been vaping a 50/50 juice - exact same flavor too - for two years so I"m thinking it cant be that. Going to the city tomorrow so I'll stop at Sally's and get the celucotton and rewick. We'll see if that does it.
You'll use more rayon than you would use cotton. You're supposed to pack it more tightly. You'll know if you don't use enough
