I haven't bought pre-built Clapton coils, but did buy spools of pre-configured 316L SS clapton and 28AWG twisted kanthal wire.

^^^^ This.

I have Kanthal (26/32?) and SS (I think the same wire sizes?)

It's not bad with which to work. I had dual claptons in a Velocity - yoyks! That took a bit to ramp up  Sadly, I had it on a squonk mod with only 40W max. Needed MOAR POWERZ!!!!! (However, once I pulled one of the coils, it worked quite nicely on Squonk. Can't wait to try it on my Dripbox....

So dumb question....I have 2 drippers that were given to me that have dual coil capacity. Do you have to put dual coils in them or can you use them as a single coil? I just want to use them as testers for when I mix, and don't wanna have to hassle with dual coils if I don't have to.

You can do single coil... just close off the airflow on the side in which you aren't putting a coil. :)

I often use my drippers as single-coil. Might depend on how much you can block airflow. I use my velocities all the time as singles

These are cheap lil dudes that don't have adjustable airflow...I'd have to tape off the airflow hole on that side lol. But thank you...I'm gonna give it a try tonight.

I don't/can't close off a complete side - I just turn the airflow down a bit

You could also stuff cotton in that side to block it off. Bonus: it makes the chamber smaller and should increase flavor production. ;)

@DingerCPA Just wanted to give you a heads up, I've run across some reports of firing buttons sticking on the Dripbox. Don't know that it is a widepread issue, but at least one store reported the following on Reddit "If the battery is tightened to far in and the button is bumped at all it will stick and continue to fire. We have had this issue with every item we received, and they all come straight from kanger to my store."

I hadn't thought about that. However, wouldn't the wicking material get saturated? I've often taken the entire length of a shiseido pad strip (approx 3") and jammed that into the other part of the velocity well..... Hmmmmmmm

Hrm, Thanks, Bro..... which store? Mine seems o.k., but I may need to loosen or pull the battery if it's going to sit for any length of time.....

Yeah, it would... and you wouldn't get that bit of juice back. But it would probably help in blocking off the airflow. ;)

Hmm...that's a thought. I have plenty of them :D Okay, nother dumb question...The Ccells are supposed to be compatible with the Triton tank...any reason that the Triton RBA wouldn't work in my Target Tank? I wish they made a Triton mini RBA cause I've started using those in my mini Nautilus.

I can't tell, that post was made by someone who's user name is Beer4Less_Ecig, in a response to a thread about the cotton catching on fire in one overnight.

I use single coils in all my drippers, and now I have some different ideas about dealing with the other air hole, on the ones that can't be shut off. :)
Testing juices is why I'm suddenly interested in claptons. I read last night, if you use a clapton in a small dripper, you don't need wicking, if all you're doing is taste testing. Saturate the coil, and you're good for a couple of draws, then redrip, and repeat. Dry burn to clean the coil for a new flavor.

I'm slowly getting there. I'm trying to make sure I have RBA's for most of my tanks "just in case" ya know. On a good note, I finally built a coil that made it over 1 ohm this weekend--so I might get the hang of it eventually!!
Definitely! The rba's are and will be great to have!
You will get the hang of it! I build alot of 1.8 to 2.0 ohm and 2.0 to 2.4 ohm coils, and my little technique involves heating the wire to take the springiness out of it before building my coil, then I wrap 8 times around 1/16th drill bit or 1.5 on my coil building tool, then I squeeze the coil together while still on the tool, then I take it off heat it again then I squeeze the coil together, and I put it back on my tool and install the coil into the base im building on. Thats how I do mine :)

Thass interesting! Almost like a "drip atomizer"? I have a bunch of Mini RDAs that could fit that bill (although, the post holes are kinda tiny - I'm not sure if my clapton wire would fit.....) Guess I'll have to give that a go.

With springier SS I'll wrap on the little coil mandrel, install on the base, then fire it on my PV with the tank top off and no wick, around 10W. When you get some orange, it can compress cleanly with ceramic-tipped tweezers. The goodness of ceramic tipped is they can be used even while firing, no short circuit path.

For moderate diameter ID you could probably even stick a toothpick through the middle to help keep things true/round when you use the tweezers, as long as you are staying at low power; I don't bother with anything beyond the tweezers, the results are plenty good enough to get a wick through.

Honestly, I don't know. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I don't have any Triton parts.

Wow, those are some tiny coils! I build 2.5 - 3mm ID coils and I usually keep them spaced instead of compressing them together. Spaced coils seem to last longer with less gunking for me. I did wrap up some higher resistance coils the other day with 28ga kanthal, but mostly I build 0.2-0.5Ω coils with 24-26ga NiChrome.

I use single coils in all my drippers, and now I have some different ideas about dealing with the other air hole, on the ones that can't be shut off. :)

As for juice testing, I usually use a small chamber RDA (like a Derringer or Stumpy). Then I use dual coils and rayon wicks. Rayon actually clears flavor very well... drip your juice on it and vape it. Then either drip straight VG to clear the flavor or just vape till it's dry and move on to the new flavor.

I did pick up a new RDA that I need to try. TINY chamber and deck... It's the Vertex Jr. and it looks very promising for flavor testing, but since I got it from FT it needs a little modification attention in order to get it into working order... one of the screw holes in the post isn't up to snuff. :(
