I know my brother has had issues with fasttech (Those get resolved yet, Brudder?) but I has to give em a kudo here. I just placed an order to take advantage of the 20% off sale.
DARNED if I didn't FORGET to put the code in?!? Loading up on Crown coils, a lil 316L wire, and another "Ultimate backup for backups*" for the new car. Well, they have a mechanism that lets you CANCEL your order immediately after, opt for an instant store credit. I did thusly, RE-placed my order, applied coupon and store credits, Voila. 20% off, fixed immediately. Noice.
hiya - actually, paypal resolved it after ft dragged their feet, but all good - and i have ordered from them since with no issues - just being a little more cognizant of what is shipping together, lol (no larger wire orders with pokey coil jig rods in same package...)I know my brother has had issues with FastTech (Those get resolved yet, Brudder?) but I has to give em a kudo here. *Teh Ultimate backup for backups. Keep one in every vehicle. USB variable voltage 510 passthru. These lil things ROCK, when you run out to the store, and forget ya mod. $3.17 with coupon. vaping on one RIGHT nao, that I took outta my truck to change the 510 drip atty. With a drip atty, cone, and driptip, so tiny! Hits like a truck too, for tootlers!
$3.97 Variable Voltage USB Passthrough for E-Cigarette - silver at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping![]()
I may have an issue with them though.. I placed an order with them and got an email on the 21st of January saying it was shipped. But when I check the tracking number it says origin post is preparing shipment. Here it is 16 days later. That package should be sitting in customs by now.![]()
I'll try and be patient! Not always, Lady Lynn. I will get a tracking number and it will be DAYZ before I see ANY movement. There's a black hole between "Origin Post Preparing Shipment" and seeing mine land in Chicago (my closest international doorway.) I've just learned to let it go for at least 3 weeks before even expecting any movement.
Are you adjusting the total leg length parameter?Mssr. DC, I did grab some of that SS Clapton wire.... I will see how that amuses me....
Kweshun for the masses here (asked this on another thread, and no responses yet - just a few "likes"[emoji38])
I pop over to steam-engine every once in a while to check a couple of things, and I wrapped two coils today with 28g 316L wire. S-E says that for my target resistance, it would take 9 wraps (1 ohm, 3mm ID) I wrapped one at 6/5 and another at 5/4. The 5/4 was about 1Ω; 6/5 was about 1.2Ω I can never seem to get S-E to match what I'm building. I checked my build on a couple of mods and my ohmmeter - they all rang out similarly. What am I doing wrong with S-E?
Yeah but I know they're on holiday until the 15th so not much I can do about it anyway!SUX, doesn't it??????![]()

Thanks Mark! I've always had the same problem as Lady Dinger with steam engine. Are you adjusting the total leg length parameter?
The default, 5mm total, is tiny - each of the two legs would only be 0.1" (2.5 mm) long. On my tf-r1 the legs are each actually > 0.3" ( to the point where the leg contacts the post).
A change in total leg length from 5mm to 20mm, using 30awg 316l, target 1 ohm on 3mm id, changes the build from a 6/5 to a 5/4.

Not DC, and I'll let my brudder answer, but I has my suspicions. Does it typically read higher ohms than what SE predicts?
I ordered one of the little 510 atty resistance checkers from ft, like it. Simple, seems accurate, and gives a nice stable surface if you want to nudge the coil spacing with tweezers. Thanks Mark. I don't play much with the leg length. I will have to be more careful with that.... Generally, I just wrap something that "looks o.k." and then measure. I never really have a target I'm trying to hit.
{shuffles off to find some sort of measuring device that can measure legs)
^^^ Yeah, I grabbed an ohmmeter quite some time ago. Also spot-check on a couple different mods, if I'm really concerned. Generally they all read in the same general range. Since I typically don't build anything below 0.5 (or 0.1 with Ni200), a 1/10Ω with a kanthal or SS build doesn't freak me out.
And I probably won't build too much with Ni any more anyway.... I like the kanthal or SS better

GOOD choices, on the Kanthal or SS only. I've gone over as well. Why risk it? Some lunatic dry burned a Ti coil for funsies, and posted it on the interwebs.. The stuffs people do to amuse theyselves...![]()
