Hey everyone,

Think this is my first real question since I've started out here. Just picked up a kayfun 3.1 a couple days ago and for the life of me cant seem to get it wicking properly(dry hits). Running a 1.3 ohm micro on it. I'm not new to rebuilding as I've been doing it for a short while on my dripper. Any help/tips/magic(cmon harry potter) would be appreciated.

I take it you're using cotton thats what it looks like from the pic anywya...
I'd say that you could be using too much, as cotton swells as it gets moist. so what could be happening is as its swelling (soaking up liquid) the coil is stopping it and the center is staying kind of dry thus giving u that dry hit taste....
Also if your twisting your cotton before u feed it through then u also could be twisting it too tight and its not saoking up the liquid properly,
I just twist the end to feed it through then chop the twisted bit off and leave it unwravled.

Thanks for the replay, I am using cotton and I've adjusted the amount so many times already trying to find the right amount that i'm goin crazy. Find this thing less forgiving compared to my patriot. As for twisting, I only roll the cotton between my palms to round it out and twist the end to thread it, cutting the twisted end off. When I pull on the cotton it does slide through with a bit of resistance.

I just got a couple of Tobecco Kayfun Lite's and an Hcigar Kayfun 3.1. Been building with a Nimbus clone and a Kracken clone previously. I found that leaving the cotton fluffed out gives better performance all around. I only mess with one end just to get it to thread through the coil, and leave the rest of the cotton pretty much untouched and fluffy. The end that I roll out gets cut off as well. Haven't had a dry hit yet, but I do aim for higher ohms then you do, at 1.5 or more. I only have regulated devices.

I find pressing the cotton up against the sides and down into the corners to work well. I also plug the air hole up an take a few sucks to prime the chamber before I vape. It took me a few tries to get it right. I'm having the same issues now that I tried a chimney buid on my KF. Also you might want to just double ckeck that the juice slots are open. Some of the clones are not machined very well.

Just rewicked it using even less cotton and unrolled, I just took a piece off, twisted the end and yanked it through. Also derogg when you say "open" what am I looking for? I know when I got the lower chimney part on I can see the shape of a 1/2 moon where the juice channels are, also if I put a bit of juice in with lower chimney portion on and draw on it juice does flow up into the chamber. Likewise if I blow on the chimney part I can blow bubbles into the juice(takes me back to my childhood but bubbles in chocolate milk taste better).

New wicking, hope this does it :)

Edit: Also with clear portion on I don't see any bubbles coming up, unless there isn't supposed to be.

So put it back together and seems to be ok now, I didn't clog the juice channels but if i'd have to describe it i'd say the ends of the wicks are just slightly over where the juice flows in. As of yesterday anything longer than like 1 second toot would drop me to the knees. Now I pulled for a good 5+ seconds and I was still standing in awe. Hope this is the end of dry hits for me and i'm on my way to figuring this damned thing out. Btw when it hits properly I LOVE it, think my nautilus may just start collecting dust.

If this is a clone, your juice channels might be too shallow. I had this problem with my clone and I just used a dremmel to make sure the two channels were connected and deep enough.

Thanks for that Maestro, i'll grab a pic of my channels once i'm done this tank full. Seems to be working well. No more dry hits but if I do a lung hit my throat gets irritated. Never had this same irritation on my RDA and using same juice that I use in it. I've read the kayfuns pack a punch but if that's what i'm experiencing....WOW.

I'm seeing a few different issues with the coil in your picture.

1) You've got the legs on top of the coil instead of underneath. Flip your next coil over.

2) Kayfuns don't seem to like small coils. From what I've seen and tried, you want to stick to about 7 wraps or more (I tend to use 7/8 or 8/9).

3) What gauge wire and are you sure that's 1.3 ohms? The picture's a little small to know for sure, but it looks like you've got big wire at 2 wraps, which is going to put the resistance really low. The kayfun isn't really designed for big clouds or low resistance. I know some people who go as low as .8 ohms, but most get the best performance in the 1.2 to 1.7 range or so. Also, anything larger than 28 gauge tends to pop and spit a lot, so you could end up with hot juice in your mouth.

I've tried a lot of different kayfun builds, and this is the one that works the best for me:

Hope that helps.

Hey novamatt, I tested the coil on my mvp and it came out to 1.3, using 7/6 wraps 32 gauge on a 5/64th drillbit. Must have not have been paying attention to my coil orientation as I have read legs are better coming from the bottom not top of the coil which i'll correct on the next build. I"ll watch the video and see what I can learn from it, thanks :)

I use 32 gauge twisted, 5-6 wraps on a (I am almost positive) 3/32 bit for 1.5-7 ohm coil, then 3 strands of P&C yarn.
I make it long enough so the ends lay across the deck but scrunched to the stand so they don't cover the juice pathways.

Hows the yarn compared to cotton.. have you tried both?

With cotton I get a funky taste for awhile, nothing with the yarn, its easier to work with too....

Ehh.. I hear so many different opinions on these lol..I hear yarn gives a weird taste as well.. I guess I just need to try out both and come to my own conclusion lol.

What kind do you use? Going to pick some up
