Kayfun - Can coils cause whistling?

I've had my svoemesto kayfun for about a month now. Love it. Anyway, within the last week, it just started whistling when I take a draw on it. It never did it before. I did change coils right around the time it started this, but I can't say for sure that this was EXACTLY when it started the whistle. FYI, I changed the coil from a 28 gauge Kanthal micro coil wrapped around a 5/64 drill bit, running at 1.6 ohm - to - a triple twisted 32 gauge kanthal micro coil around the same 5/64 drill bit now running at 1.7 ohms. I don't think this matters, but I am running it on the same MVP V2 at 11 watts.

Can a different coil cause the whistling or is something else causing it?

The coil shape and placement relative to the air tube on the positive deck... and the wick arrangement, can alter the sound characteristics, or lack of sound.
An AFC adjustment... sometimes alone, sometimes in concert with the other "tunable" elements, or a change in drip tip inside diameter and/or internal length will do it.

thank you. that has to be it...I can't think of anything else it could be. Now I have a great excuse to rip out this coil and build a new one.

I suppose it could but I have 4 kayfuns, and I am constantly doing different builds, one day it's twisted coil, the next parallel, while the next just regular micro, in almost 2 years of doing this I have never had a specific coil whistle, in fact it seems whatever configuration I have in there, sounds all the same to me. But it does seem possible when you think about it.

I can't explain it myself divrr... the list of (atomizer) variables that can create a sound aren't very well researched, so my assessment may be correct, partly correct... or entirely off the mark. ;-)

You might also take a look at the AFC screw itself, ilmostro.

It comes to mind that, the screw is acting as a sort of reed, where by, if out far enough to engage only a thread or two, it could set up a vibratory motion sufficient to create a sound.
For a quick test... remove it entirely, or secure it with dab of sealant that prevents it from moving.

I believe this is correct. I have had the whistle sound before also. What I noticed is when I my coil is close to the air hole (about 1 - 1.5 mm) I don't get the whistle sound.

It does make sense for sure that a certain coil can produce a whistle and the afc also, especially if the coil is very close to the air hole, it's just never happened to me. Maybe it is because both my coil height and afc are not too impeding? But yes, I suppose if all things were in the right spot, then it could whistle, makes perfect sense to me

I got a used EhPro clone, and the seller "deburred" the airhole (at least I think this was the wording used). He said he used a drill bit that was the same size as the airhole, and just gave it three turns by hand. I'm not advocating this, but passing on something I'd never heard before.

I've never performed this myself, but I will say after using it for several weeks, it had developed more of a tendency to whistle than when it first arrived.

Although, I did remove the AFC screw at first, and have put it back in recently. Removing the screw fully again did provide several whistle-free hits just now, leading me to believe the screw is the culprit.

I'm not an expert, but that's just some food for thought!
