I just got into build coils and decided to buy a kayfun. put my fist coil on it and when checking for hot spots it actually smoked and smelled like rubber? The only rubber I see on the base is the oring on the bottom which looks fine? is there rubber anywhere ele on the base?

No but there's an insulator under the positive block that can melt if your coil is too low , did you clean all the machine oil off your kayfun before using it ?

If you haven't done an initial clean, give that a shot. I do a scalding hot water and dawn soak with everything that juice will touch, with the exception of wicking material. Throw your deck on an ohm reader to be sure you aren't getting a short. Additionally, there are two non-steel replaceable parts on the build deck and they're both delrin (I believe) insulators/isolators. If you're still getting a burnt smell, these might be involved.

yeah exactly. You should really clean every new atom. Use hot water for everything and you can put all ss parts in boiled water.
